Devops/Release Engineer This is hybrid onsite in Lansing, Michigan

Position Overview: Apex is seeking a skilled Senior Release Engineer to join the US & Canada practice within Apex Systems Solutions Delivery Organization. This role will serve on project teams with Apex clients to deliver solutions. This role may also provide technical subject matter expertise for Apex sales and account teams.

Key Responsibilities:

Mentor and coach development teams on release engineering and DevOps best practices and methodologies. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration within the teams. Advise clients on DevOps best practices and methodologies to meet specific requirements and use cases around architecture, standards, and governance. Build strong client, industry, and technical community relationships and represent Apex Systems as leaders in industry and professional events and communities. Develop and maintain strong internal and external customer relationships. Demonstrate strong technical knowledge and implementation skills. Stay current on relevant technology trends and practices. Build trust and respect among internal and external stakeholders and demonstrate collaborative teamwork. Produce high-quality deliverables, meet project deadlines, and take responsibility for engagement success. Demonstrate a passion for quality and process improvement. Implement and manage release tooling to streamline the release process and improve efficiency. Monitor and troubleshoot deployment issues, ensuring timely resolution and minimal impact on production systems. Manage and maintain cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) to support deployment and operations. Ensure security and compliance standards are met across all environments. Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration management using tools like Ansible, Terraform, or similar. Stay updated with the latest release engineering and DevOps trends and technologies. Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement innovative solutions. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance the overall development and deployment process.

Qualifications

6+ years of experience in release engineering, DevOps, or a related role. Strong experience with automation tools and frameworks (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, Ansible, Terraform). In-depth knowledge of release strategies, including blue-green deployments, canary releases, and feature toggles. Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell). Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP). Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) and configuration management tools. Collaborate with other developers, testers, and system engineers to ensure quality product enhancements. Experience working with teams of developers and other technical professionals in an Agile delivery framework. Positive relationship builder able to navigate through complex situations to ensure the most robust and pragmatic solution. Strong analytical skills and the aptitude to quickly identify gaps and risks. Excellent written and spoken communication skills, including the ability to help stakeholders navigate the trade-offs and alternatives to various solution architectures. BA/BS preferred in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or related fields (applicable education and experience may be substituted).
