Job Title: RHEL/Linux Engineer Client: 3M 12+ month’s contract Maplewood, MN
W2 Only. During COVID it’s REMOTE
- Top 3 requirements? • Approx 4+ years RHEL engineering/testing experience on v6, 7, and 8 (two of three is a must) • Scripting ability via bash as primary, but other experience is good too • ansible, and working with other on-prem and cloud related cluster technologies • The more cloud (AWS preferably) exposure/experience the better as the role will support many legacy/on-prem environments but also work closely with the team to build cloud platforms where all the applications will eventually reside
JD/Qual notes:
Team:
Infra/Cloud Platform Engineering team. We are responsible for cloud engineering practices, virtual datacenter infrastructure, hybrid cloud architecture, and leading transformation for software defined infrastructures and cloud adoption.
Platform Engineering Team: Platform teams build, deploy, monitor, and are on call for the platform components and underlying platform infrastructure. The platform team ideally doesn't even know what applications are running on the platform, they are only responsible for the availability of the platform services themselves.
Project and Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
This Cloud Platform Engineering team has recently carried out several POCs (proof of concept) for Cloud transformation initiatives. Consisting of many different type of applications, with a large focus on SAP workloads. They will now begin to start migrating applications in non-POC settings in preparation for Production environments. Much of this role will focus more on keeping current on-Prem systems running in RHEL/Linux environments – will also work on other items that come out of cloud transformation that are RHEL related – as future destination will become cloud for all applications and environments.
- RHEL 6 shop right now.
- Role will backfill some of the current (senior) team members consisting of engineers, product leaders and RHEL Architects/SAP skills, who were put on the AWS conversation efforts… need to get more support on Linux environments now.
- May help identify and resolve issues with optimization of work loads in AWS o The enterprise cloud project is AWS - large scale project/ongoing for next 3+ years, so likely will touch on parts of this as part of overall team.
- RHEL Testing
- Cluster Configurations
- Ticket worthy items - comes out of service delivery (Sys Admins) and comes into their group / this person won't do that (sys admin work, this is an engineering position)
- Build clusters/Automation in Ansible and work with applicable groups to test
Requirements/Qualifications: “Must have” unless stated otherwise
• Linux Engineers (not admins) – ability to develop bash, ansible, cloudformation, put together cluster technology. RHEL Testing. • Clustering Experience • RHEL - knowledge 6,7 and 8 is critical - looking at optimization and engineering activities across all three (Open to 2 out of 3) • Ansible - not using Tower today, want the person to integrate a little bit with DevOps, requirements or frameworks coming out of CI/CD - need to understand concepts. Their work is primarily confined to the Linux platform. • YOE: Strong candidates, not worried about YOE - they need someone strong, self starter, take input at a higher level, no hand holding - 4+ years • Cloud Knowledge AWS: CloudFormation or CLI experience (N2H), Awareness of cloud • Database: DB2 (N2H, good to have)
CERTIFICATION: Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) - RHCE Certification is ideal
Years of Experience: 4+ (this is a soft guideline)
Confirm Cloud Platform: AWS – the more the better, but the primary focus will be on RHEL Engineering
Will they need to be familiar with IaaS (Infrastructure), PaaS (Platform), SaaS (Software)? Will the candidate need to be familiar with IaaS (Infrastructure), PaaS (Platform), SaaS (Software)? (Knowledge/Concepts) · PaaS/Platform as a Service o AWS Elastic Beanstalk, Windows Azure, Heroku, Force.com, Google App Engine, Apache Stratos, OpenShift

Scripting / Software Development: Bash
Database (if Applications based): DB2
Confirm the NICE TO HAVE skill sets: · AWS CloudFormation/CLI/CNI
Will this candidate need any soft skills? Communication / Integration with data engineering team / Platform organization focused on Data center, great comms, strong team player that can identify needs and get to work on their own (will have guidance but need to be self-sufficient)
