About the role
Role: Sr. Middleware Engineer (WebSphere)
Duration: Long Term Contract Location: Remote Visa: Must work on w2 Rate: $75/hr
Top skills: WebSphere, WebSphere Liberty, Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift
Provide design, build, and operational support expertise for projects leveraging advanced middleware technologies. Participate in architecting, designing, implementing, and configuration Web Application Server Technology products which include but are not limited to: IBM WebSphere family of products, JBOSS family of products, WebLogic, IIS, etc. Leads troubleshooting and analysis activities for middleware technologies which include but are not limited to the following: Web Applications Server Services, Messaging, File Transfer, and Business Intelligence Services. Provide multiple site support of the installation, upgrading, testing, and maintenance of software and hardware. Creates detailed work plans for both installation and continuing maintenance. Conducts tests and monitors new installations. Develops automation and scripting to install, configure, and patch solutions.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides highly technical, ongoing support of Middleware.
- Directs the installation, upgrade, testing and maintenance of multiple server and network operating system environments.
- Directs installation and deployment of security patches across the server environment and ensures adherence to change control policies.
- Writes and coordinates technical standards and procedures.
- Directs the monitoring and tuning on a regular basis. Produces statistics on performance and is responsible for identifying and resolving performance problems.
- Conducts problem resolution. Performs research and testing to determine cause and makes necessary corrections.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Key Requirements and Responsibilities : Technology : • WebSphere Liberty (Preferred) • Containerization (Using Docker, Kubernetes, JSON, Terraform ) • Automation (Shell scripting/Ansible/yml/python) • Infrastructure as Code • AWS/Azure/OCP
Responsibilities
- • Develop pattern for WebSphere Liberty for standalone on-prem and cloud installs using containers • Develop, implement and Test SAFR checklist and CIS benchmark controls for WebSphere Liberty • Develop POC (proof of concept) for migrating traditional WebSphere apps to Liberty • Automate builds and deployments using technology mentioned above.
Position Requirements: • Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge pertaining to concepts and principles in functional area. General knowledge of department/business lines, Reserve Banks, and / or System operations, policies, procedures and technologies. • Communications: Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, creativity, attention to detail, and oral and written communications skills tailored for the intended audience. • Risk Management: [The individual] is responsible for understanding and applying risk management discipline in decision making, and contributing to his or her function`s risk management. • Decision Making: Works under direction and guidance in planning details of procedures and methods to attain definite objectives. Makes decisions within established or widely accepted standards. Achieves assigned/planned results by decisions and actions based on professional methods, training, business principles, and practical experience.
Other/Additional Requirements: • Working Conditions: Will require the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, etc. • Physical Demands: Requires some degree of sitting (for prolonged periods of time), standing, lifting carrying, pushing, pulling more than 20 lbs. • Hours of Work: May require extended work hours. Occasional travel including overnight stays may be necessary. May be subject to on-call and call back as needed. May be exposed to moderate noise from equipment.
Education/Experience: • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience with 6 to 9+ years of relevant work experience.
