About the role
Role:Senior Network Design Engineer
Location:Richmond, VA OR Columbia, SC– hybrid model with onsite and remote mix. Duration:12 months
Overall: Design any needed data networks at substations. Will need extensive Cisco route/switch and SDWAN knowledge. They will need Visio experience to provide all needed drawing and documentation for each substation.
Certifications: CCNP or CCNA
Primary job duties include, but not limited to:
Configure and install network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, QoS). Perform network maintenance and system upgrades including service packs, patches, hot fixes and security configurations. Monitor network performance and ensure system availability and reliability. Monitor network resource utilization, trending, and capacity planning. Provide Level 2/3 support and troubleshooting to resolve issues. Work within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to the network infrastructure. Select and implement security tools, policies, and procedures in conjunction with the company’s security team Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience 7 years of networking experience Strong engineering and operational skills in Enterprise routing and switching environments Deep understanding of network routing protocols: EIGRP, BGP, OSPF Skills not required but considered a plus: MPLS, Cisco ACI, CISCO ISE, SD-WAN technologies, Wireless F5 load balancing, Infoblox, SolarWinds (NPM, NCM), Firewalls (PA, Fortinet, ASA) Cloud-based connectivity (AWS, Azure) RoIP, Multicast, Voice over WLAN, WiFi Packet decoding technology Experience with NERC CIP environments Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including network diagraming Must be self-motivated, a collaborative team member, and able to work with many teams on large projects
