Role: Postgres DBA SME

Duration: Permanent Direct Hire (Will be onsite 1x a month in San Antonio) Location: San Antonio, TX (Remote but must be in Texas)

Role/Requirement Notes

Looking for a strong PostgreSQL SME/Senior DBA working heavily on the server side of database administration (vs apps). If we can find someone Architect-level within the salary range, that would be ideal, but understands that may not be feasible. Security is a big focus--needs understanding of enterprise-level security, key vault management. Can be Hashicorp Vault, Azure Key Vault, AWS KMS, etc. Need deep understanding of securing data in-transit and data at rest (this is one of his first interview questions!) Needs someone with strong communication, ability to perform diplomatically under pressure, with 'poise' Has little control over the underlying SQL of the debit system and another strong apps-side DBA on the team so very little of the role will consist of building/optimization of queries, window functions, etc. Should have some baseline to understand what's there and troubleshoot. Replication and backup/disaster recovery strategy is needed. They have an epass setup currently, but vendor product is a different 'skew' so need to realign their current recovery, availability strategies to new system. Epass but vendor insists on pgE (Postgres Edge) Postgres Distributed (PGD) are highly desirable What type of replication strategies are currently in place (e.g., streaming replication, logical replication)? Infrastructure automation, shell/bash scripting, Ansible automated deployments If someone has a background in implementing CI/CD that would be great. It's on their roadmap but haven't begun to solution out there. If someone has experience managing the intricacies and orchestration, that would be very helpful. Using pgAdmin, packaged deployment, PEM (Postgres Enterprise Manager) for monitoring. Banking/financial background not necessary.

Required Skills:

Expertise in PostgreSQL databases (14+) and background as a server-side DBA Experience in database upgrades and versioning migrations Understanding of enterprise level security and key vault management techniques (HashiCorp Vault, Azure Key Vault, AWS KMS, etc.) Securing data in-transit and at rest Experience in replication strategies (streaming, logical, etc.) Backup and disaster recovery expertise Infrastructure scripting and Ansible automation Monitoring with tools like pgAmin or PEM Strong communication skills

Nice to Have:

Architect level background Advanced Postres features: pgE and/or PGD CI/CD implementation Experience in Oracle-->Postgres migrations Banking/Financial background
