About the role
Role: Scala Backend Engineer
Duration: 6+ months Location: Remote Visa: W2/1099 role Rate: $65/hr
Technical Skills Scala (Required) (2 years of scala) Springboot - Microservices. (Required) Kafka - Open to other MQ systems. Postgres - Open to other RDBMS Rest API's. Github 3rd party integration experience is a nice to have.
Team Size & Breakdown: Agile, 2 week sprints Mix of back end and front end devs
High-Level Individual Duties: Support new feature development for web and mobile platforms Work on third party integrations into the platform Work within a complex system environment with approximately 20-22 microservices that are communicating with each other The coaching product is a platform with a variety of programs that clients qualify for through their insurance providers. Working on the coach for life program. Helps people quit smoking. The coaching platform offers members a variety of healthy resources around numerous things including smoking, weight loss, diabetes, etc. 13 total programs offered right now. People can earn reward for their health insurance. They have both web and mobile applications. Scala is used on the backend here. T he platform is very large and 22 microservices right now. Having a good system design experience is important here.
Notes from the HM This contractor will need a strong backend development experience. We need to decouple a set of shared services from our parent company. One of the main areas is account/eligibility functionality. Plus there are several other services this engineer might work on.
- Our primary language of development on these services is Scala. So, in order to contribute to new development or maintain these services, following skills are required: Scala, sbt, Play, Akka
- The above would also mean solid experience with RESTful APIs and microservices
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and relational databases
- Some scripting experience - python or shell (bash)
- Need software implementation and integration experience with a working knowledge of Agile development lifecycle.
- Previous experience on account, eligibility, authentication (OIDC based) type systems will be helpful. This will be one of the biggest projects these contractor engineers will be working on.
