About the role
Job Summary: We are seeking a Senior DBA with over 10 years of experience to lead a critical infrastructure project: upgrading our Altium On-Prem Enterprise Server to version 7.2.6. The successful candidate will manage the complex transition from an Oracle database backend to Firebird and oversee the mandatory migration of project data into a Git repository architecture. Key Responsibilities: - Altium Server Upgrade: Lead the upgrade of Altium On-Prem Enterprise Server to the latest reliable version (7.2.6), ensuring compatibility with current .NET 8 runtimes. - Database Migration (Oracle to Firebird): Design and execute the migration strategy to move all legacy enterprise data from Oracle to Firebird. (Critical requirement as AES version 7+ no longer supports Oracle as a backend database.) - VCS Migration (SVN to Git): Manage the transition of design projects to the native Git repository (Versioned Storage), including use of Altiums SVN-to-Git migration tools for batch processing. - Firebird Optimization: Configure Firebird for enterprise performance, including managing the 16KB page size requirement for version 7 upgrades and ensuring 24/7 engineering availability. - Backup & Disaster Recovery: Utilize avBackup tool and custom scripts to ensure comprehensive data protection before, during, and after migration. Required Technical Skills: - 8+ Years Database Administration: Extensive experience with Firebird SQL and Oracle database environments. - Altium Infrastructure Expertise: Proven experience with Altium Vault, Concord Pro, or Altium On-Prem Enterprise Server installations. - Migration Tools: Experience in heterogeneous database migration (Oracle to Firebird) and VCS migration (SVN to Git). - Environment: Proficiency in Windows Server 2022 and managing services across standard ports (e.g., Firebird 3050, Git/SVN 3690, HTTP 9780). - Scripting: Ability to automate tasks using Python, PowerShell, or Bash. Project-Specific Requirements: - Direct experience coordinating with Altium technical support or account managers for database conversion support. - Ability to validate that CreatedBy field and other metadata are correctly preserved during Oracle-to-Firebird conversion. - Experience testing and validating upgrades in a virtualized staging environment before production rollout. .
