A Senior Civil Surveyor is responsible for planning, managing, and overseeing all surveying activities on civil engineering and construction projects. They ensure that measurements, layouts, and survey data are accurate and comply with project specifications, engineering drawings, and applicable standards. Roles and Responsibilities of a Senior Civil Surveyor Plan, organize, and supervise all surveying activities at construction sites. Review engineering drawings, specifications, and project requirements before survey work begins. Establish and verify project control points, benchmarks, and reference lines. Perform site setting out for roads, buildings, bridges, pipelines, utilities, and other civil works. Conduct topographic, boundary, as-built, and quantity surveys. Ensure accurate horizontal and vertical alignment of structures. Verify dimensions, elevations, coordinates, and levels before and during construction. Monitor structural movement and settlement where required. Prepare survey reports, field notes, sketches, and as-built drawings. Coordinate with project managers, site engineers, consultants, and subcontractors to ensure survey requirements are met. Resolve survey discrepancies and provide technical guidance to junior surveyors. Maintain calibration and proper maintenance of surveying instruments. Ensure compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and local regulations. Conduct quantity verification and support measurement for billing purposes when required. Assist in planning excavation, earthwork, grading, and leveling operations. Maintain accurate survey records and documentation for project audits. Ensure survey activities are carried out safely in accordance with site health and safety procedures. Train, mentor, and evaluate junior surveyors and survey assistants. Support project progress by providing timely and accurate survey information to construction teams. Key Skills Required Proficiency in Total Station, GPS/GNSS, Auto Level, and Digital Level operations. Strong knowledge of construction drawings and engineering principles. Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and survey data processing software. Excellent mathematical and analytical skills. Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities. Leadership and team management skills. Good communication and coordination skills. Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Knowledge of QA/QC procedures and construction standards. Understanding of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) requirements. Typical Qualifications Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Surveying, or Geomatics. Typically 815 years of experience in civil construction surveying. Experience in infrastructure, highways, buildings, residential projects, Familiarity with modern surveying technologies, including GPS/GNSS, GIS, laser scanning, or UAV-based surveying, is an advantage. Preferred candidate profile Education : Diploma or Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering or Surveying. Experience : Minimum 5+ years of relevant experience in major infrastructure, power, or road projects.
