Job Requisition ID: R00049306 Job Category: Professional and Technical Organization: SER-Office of Planning, Design, and Construction Location/s: Main Campus Jackson Job Title: Architect - Senior - Office of Planning, Design, and Construction Job Summary: This position leads the design and planning of projects and assists with the implementation of projects from concept to completion. Collaborates with internal and external teams on projects, ensuring adherence to codes, budgets, and timelines. Prepares and reviews design and pricing for projects. Education & Experience Education and Experience Required: Bachelor’s degree in architecture and five (5) years of architect, designing, or engineering experience. Certifications, Licenses, or Registration Required: Valid Mississippi driver’s license. Architect license from Mississippi State Board of Architecture. Preferred Qualifications: Academic medical, healthcare, or university design experience. Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Demonstration of proficiency in planning and design, knowledge of design practices and principles and applicable codes and standards. Excellent communication skills, including ability to present information and respond accurately and concisely to inquiries. Ability to professionally manage both internal and external design staff. High attention to detail and ability to manage deadlines effectively. Responsibilities: Works with user groups on planning and design including review of business outcomes and working to translate those outcomes into facility solutions. Use master plans to link business outcomes to facility use. Oversee the production of design and working drawings and specifications; ensures accuracy and completeness of project drawings prior to approval of construction documents. Effectively and efficiently utilize graphics and presentation software to delineate planning concepts (e.g. sketch-up, Photoshop, Acrobat Pro, Navisworks, Revit, AutoCAD, and PowerPoint). Supervises, leads and develops assigned team. Articulates vision, planning and business strategy at all levels. Utilizes FGI design guidelines for hospitals and outpatient facilities and Joint Commission requirements. Maintains knowledge of codes and regulations, including international building code, NFPA 101, OSHA, ADA, ASHRAE 90.1, SWPPP, and other special requirements of the building types associated with an academic medical center (e.g., Healthcare, Research Labs, University Campus Buildings, etc.) Responsible for maintaining UMMC design standards and space program. Interfaces with relevant parties to resolve problems and maintain progress; informs executive leaders of key activities and makes periodic progress reports. Works collaboratively with Planning, Design, and Construction team to review and approve design and construction drawings and apply UMMC project delivery processes to ensure compliance with applicable state and federal statutes and regulations.
