Job Description – Technical Architect

Position Overview We are seeking a bilingual Technical Architect to be a hands-on technical authority for UST’s clients in Japan. You will need to design solutions and translate solution vision into detailed architectures that offshore teams can deliver from, and govern what gets built against what was promised. You will engage directly with Japanese client technical teams, earning credibility through depth and independent operation in a Japanese technical environment. Regular on-site presence at client locations across Japan is required. Key Responsibilities Technical Assessment

Assess client environments in depth and translate findings into a clear technical picture that informs solution design and de-risks delivery. Solution Design

Produce detailed technical architectures — component designs, integration specs, infrastructure configurations, and architecture decision records — to the documentation standards Japanese enterprise clients expect.

Define technical standards and guardrails for each engagement; own cloud infrastructure design including network, security boundary, identity, and infrastructure-as-code standards. Pre-Sales Support

Provide RFP & Proposal Leadership: Own the technical response for Requests for Proposals (RFPs), ensuring all architectural and compliance requirements for the Japanese market are met. Client Engagement

Engage client technical teams directly in Japanese and English, presenting architecture rationale through structured, formal deliverables. Delivery Governance

Review offshore delivery output against architecture standards; conduct design reviews at key milestones and resolve technical escalations.

Ensure non-functional requirements are designed in from the outset and validated through delivery. Collaboration

Serve as the technical bridge between the client/Enterprise Architect and offshore delivery, translating vision into executable instruction and feeding back feasibility and risk. Required Qualifications Experience

10+ years in technical architecture or senior engineering, strong experience in pre-sales, clear transition into architecture and hands-on accountability for design and delivery outcomes.

Track record of delivering complex, multi-technology enterprise programmes end-to-end.

Sector experience in one or more of: manufacturing, automotive, industrial electronics, semiconductors, logistics, financial services, or public sector.

Prior experience with Japanese enterprise clients or in the Japan IT market strongly preferred. Technical Depth

Deep hands-on expertise in at least one major cloud platform, modern integration frameworks (APIs, microservices), enterprise software, and legacy modernization, including infrastructure-as-code, platform configuration, and network design

Track record of delivering large-scale migrations or modernisation programmes end-to-end

Strong command of integration architecture — API design, event-driven patterns, enterprise integration — at specification level.

Should have hands on expertise in at least one technology eco-system, with knowledge of others.

Hands-on experience with containerisation, orchestration, and data architecture at a design and governance level.

Practical security architecture awareness around security, including Zero-trust, identity federation, IT/OT security convergence

Comfortable in using AI tools in SDLC and experience in identifying and executing AI use cases showing demonstrated value.

Should have knowledge of data design and engineering including data lakes and data mesh/fabric; verification and validation; and of Dev Sec Ops.

Code-literate: able to read, review, and write infrastructure code and scripting. Language

Japanese: JLPT N2 minimum; N1 or native preferred. Must operate independently in Japanese client technical environments.

English: professional fluency required. Market Knowledge

Proven ability to work within Japanese corporate culture, including its documentation standards, quality expectations, and vendor-client dynamics. Education

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field. Preferred Qualifications

Professional-level cloud or security certifications; TOGAF or SAFe.

Prior GSI or system integrator delivery experience in Japan; established relationships within Japanese enterprise IT.

Familiarity with Japanese regulatory and compliance frameworks relevant to enterprise IT. Reporting Structure

Reports to: Country Head – Japan

Works closely with: Enterprise Architect, Client Partners, Offshore Delivery Leads, Pre-Sales Leadership
