Mainframe Z/OS Administrator Lead

UST is looking for a z/OS Systems Engineer to support and enhance our enterprise platform. This role focuses on z/OS administration, CICS management, security and encryption (TLS/ICSF), and ensuring reliable, secure, and efficient operations. The ideal candidate brings strong z/OS expertise and the ability to work across evolving, cloud-integrated environments. Key Responsibilities

Provide day-to-day support and administration of the z/OS operating system and related subsystems. Manage, configure, and troubleshoot CICS regions, resources, and runtime environments. Implement and support TLS and enterprise encryption capabilities across z/OS components. Support and manage ICSF (Integrated Cryptographic Service Facility), including key lifecycle and cryptographic operations. Monitor system performance and proactively resolve issues to maintain high availability and reliability. Participate in system upgrades, patching, and maintenance activities. Analyze system logs, dumps, and diagnostics to resolve complex technical issues. Collaborate with application, security, cloud, and infrastructure teams in a hybrid (z/OS + cloud) environment. Ensure adherence to configuration standards, documentation, and operational best practices. Contribute to disaster recovery planning, testing, and operational readiness.

Required Qualifications

5–8 years of hands-on experience supporting z/OS systems in a production environment Strong knowledge of CICS configuration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting Experience with TLS, encryption protocols, and secure communications on z/OS Hands-on experience with ICSF, cryptographic services, and key management Experience maintaining and monitoring tools such as BMC MainView, BMC Datastream, Dynatrace, or similar platforms Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills using system logs, dumps, and IBM tools Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, hybrid technology environment and manage multiple priorities Strong communication and collaboration skills

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with JES2, VTAM, TCP/IP stack configuration, or related subsystems Familiarity with RACF or other enterprise security tools Experience with SMP/E, system upgrades, and maintenance processes Knowledge of automation tools such as REXX, z/OS scripting, or orchestration frameworks Experience with DevOps tooling (e.g., Ansible, Git, Jenkins) in hybrid environments Experience supporting USS, Java, and Python runtime environments on z/OS Exposure to hybrid integration patterns between z/OS and cloud platforms Experience working in large enterprise or regulated environments
