As a Senior UniData Developer, your role involves writing, debugging, and enhancing production code. You are expected to independently work on complex problems, make technical decisions, and elevate the engineering standards of your team. Your deep platform expertise and domain knowledge will be essential in leading by example, including utilizing AI-assisted development tools effectively. Key Responsibilities: - Write, debug, and take ownership of production-quality UniData BASIC code for payroll, HR, and benefits modules on a daily basis - Lead the design and implementation of complex features from technical design to deployment - Establish and enforce standards for code quality, file locking discipline, error handling, and performance in UniData BASIC - Utilize AI-assisted tools such as GitHub Copilot and Claude Code to increase development output and guide the team in their effective and safe usage - Identify and resolve deep, systemic defects within a large-scale production payroll platform - Conduct code reviews, offer constructive feedback to enhance team output, and drive technical design discussions - Mentor junior and mid-level developers through pairing and structured guidance, emphasizing writing good code alongside them - Collaborate with Product Management, QA, and Customer Support to translate complex requirements into reliable solutions Qualifications Required: - 7+ years of hands-on experience with UniData, UniVerse, or another MultiValue BASIC platform - Deep understanding of payroll or HR domain logic such as tax, garnishments, and benefits - Expertise in UniData internals including file locking, READU/RELEASE discipline, SELECT cursors, MATREAD, and phantom/batch processing - Demonstrated experience in using AI-assisted coding tools like GitHub Copilot and Claude Code in a professional engineering capacity - Ability to lead technical work within Agile/Scrum teams, including sprint planning, estimation, and technical design contributions - Proficiency in Git-based workflows, code review, and collaborative development practices - Strong written communication skills for design documents, PR commentary, and escalation summaries - Track record of delivering independently across a large legacy codebase with minimal oversight The job also requires expertise in SB+ or other 4GL environments, experience in REST API design and consumption, as well as proficiency in Java, JavaScript, or Angular development.
