About the role
Position: Tableau Data Engineer Location: 100% Costa Rica/Mexico Duration: Longterm Contract Key Responsibilities: Design and build robust, scalable ETL/ELT data pipelines to support analytics and reporting needs. Prepare, clean, and transform data from multiple sources into consumable datasets for Tableau dashboards. Develop and optimize data models (Star/Snowflake schema) that enable efficient self-service analytics. Design, develop, and maintain interactive Tableau dashboards and reports for various business stakeholders. Collaborate with business analysts, data scientists, and BI teams to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions. Ensure data accuracy, completeness, and consistency through data validation and quality checks. Optimize Tableau workbooks and SQL queries for performance. Manage Tableau Server/Cloud environments, including user access, data source management, and performance tuning. Stay current with Tableau product updates and modern data engineering tools and practices. Required Skills: 4+ years of experience in data engineering, business intelligence, or related fields. Expert-level proficiency with Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server/Tableau Cloud. Strong SQL skills (preferably with Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, or SQL Server). Experience with data transformation tools (e.g., dbt, Informatica, Alteryx, or SSIS). Proficient in data modeling, query optimization, and performance tuning. Solid understanding of data warehouse concepts and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP). Ability to write efficient, well-documented, and reusable code for data ingestion and transformation. Familiarity with Python or R for data manipulation and automation is a plus. Experience with version control tools like Git.
