Solution Architect, Solution Engineering

As a Solution Architect in the Solution Engineering team at Western Union, you will play a crucial role in designing and delivering scalable, cloud-native microservices for Western Union's digital platform. You will work closely with distributed engineering teams to ensure reliability, performance, and architectural excellence. Your responsibilities will include: - Developing and implementing new software, maintaining and improving existing software - Ensuring software functionality is implemented with a focus on code optimization and organization - Recommending improvements to existing software programs - Troubleshooting application issues and coordinating issue resolution with operations, functional, and technical teams - Working as a service lead with development teams across geographically distributed structures - Reviewing design and code from different scrum teams and enforcing service level standards - Maintaining quality and engineering metrics of specific microservices as a service owner - Providing coaching to junior engineers on the team - Working independently on complex projects To qualify for this role, you should have: - Hands-on technical lead experience in designing and implementing large-scale microservices - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related fields with 7+ years of professional experience or Master's degree with 5+ years of experience - Demonstrated experience in modern programming languages and frameworks such as Java Springboot, DynamoDB/Postgres, Kafka, Redis, Apache Camel, and standard design patterns for implementing microservices - Ability to understand business needs and contribute to technology direction driving measurable business improvements - Excellent decision-making, communication, and collaboration skills - Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals, data structures, algorithms, OOPs, and OOA/D - Experience with architecture design concepts, techniques, and communication to a broad-based team - Hands-on experience in building microservices-based architecture and platform at scale - Experience in building enterprise-scale APIs for web and mobile applications - Experience with agile development methodologies, Test Driven Development (TDD), and Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) - Experience in Cloud (AWS) based architecture designs and implementations Preferred qualifications include: - Experience in the FinTech industry - Experience in building external customer-facing applications with open-source technologies and understanding of the frontend tech stack Western Union is committed to providing an inclusive culture that celebrates the unique backgrounds and perspectives of its global teams.
