Role Overview: As a Server Administrator, your primary responsibility will be to ensure the optimal performance, security, maximum availability, and reliability of the entire server environment. You will perform a variety of tasks and activities to support the efficient operation of servers. Key Responsibilities: - Plan and provision new servers based on business requirements. - Configure server hardware and install the operating system. - Establish and maintain standardized configurations for servers. - Implement configuration management tools to manage changes and updates. - Apply operating system updates and patches to address security vulnerabilities. - Schedule and perform regular maintenance to keep servers up-to-date. - Use monitoring tools to maintain uptime and track server performance metrics. - Analyze performance data to identify bottlenecks and optimize resource usage. - Forecast future capacity requirements based on current and expected workloads. - Scale server resources to meet demand and ensure optimal performance. - Establish and maintain a robust backup strategy for server data. - Test backup and recovery procedures regularly to ensure data integrity. - Manage virtualized server environments using virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V). - Optimize virtual machine configurations and resource allocations. - Implement security measures to protect servers from unauthorized access and cyber threats. - Enforce access controls, firewalls, and intrusion detection/prevention systems. - Respond to server-related incidents promptly and troubleshoot and resolve server issues. - Perform routine maintenance tasks for server hardware and replace or upgrade hardware components as needed. - Identify and decommission servers that are no longer needed or have reached the end of their lifecycle. - Maintain comprehensive documentation for each server, including configurations, specifications, and maintenance history. - Ensure proper network connectivity for servers and troubleshoot network-related issues affecting server communication. - Manage user access to servers, enforcing least privilege principles and regularly reviewing and updating access controls. Qualifications Required: - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. - Proven experience as a Server Administrator or in a similar role. - Strong knowledge of server hardware, operating systems, and virtualization platforms. - Familiarity with configuration management tools and monitoring systems. - Ability to troubleshoot server-related issues and perform routine maintenance tasks. - Excellent communication and problem-solving skills. - Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, VMware Certified Professional) would be a plus.
