Configuration Management Specialist | Defence Engineering Location: Melbourne, Australia Work Arrangement: Hybrid (Tuesday-Thursday in office)
About the Role
World Fuel Government Solutions is seeking a Configuration Management Specialist to support the delivery of complex Defence programs by maintaining the integrity, traceability and control of engineering and product configurations throughout the system lifecycle. This role is a key part of our engineering team, supporting configuration management activities across engineering, manufacturing, acquisition and sustainment programs. You will work closely with Engineering, Project Management, Quality and Defence stakeholders to help ensure engineering data, documentation, product structures and approved changes are accurately controlled and maintained. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who enjoys working at the intersection of engineering, technical data, systems, governance and process control.
What You'll Be Doing
Configuration Management Support configuration management activities across Defence engineering programs. Establish and maintain configuration baselines for products and systems. Maintain configuration records to ensure accurate traceability throughout the product lifecycle. Support engineering release and version control activities. Assist with configuration reporting and governance activities. Contribute to configuration audits and reviews.
Engineering Data & Change Control Coordinate engineering change requests and change implementation activities. Support management of Bills of Materials (BOMs), product structures and technical records. Ensure approved configuration changes are accurately reflected across engineering systems and documentation. Maintain controlled engineering documentation and records. Support compliance with customer requirements, quality systems and internal processes.
Stakeholder Collaboration Work closely with Engineers, Project Managers, Procurement, Quality and Defence stakeholders. Coordinate with suppliers to ensure engineering and configuration data remains accurate and current. Support project reviews, reporting activities and engineering governance processes. Provide configuration management support across project teams.
What We're Looking For
Essential Experience Experience in Configuration Management, Engineering Data Management, Product Configuration, Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Document Control or a related discipline. Experience supporting engineering, manufacturing, aerospace, rail, defence, automotive, mining or other highly regulated technical environments. Understanding of engineering change management or controlled document processes. Experience working with product structures, Bills of Materials (BOMs), technical records or engineering documentation. Exposure to version control, document control, engineering records or configuration-related activities. Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy. Strong organisational, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Preferred Experience Exposure to Defence, aerospace, rail, manufacturing or other complex engineering environments. Exposure to configuration audits, engineering governance, release processes or change management activities. Experience working with technical drawings, engineering documentation and controlled records. Exposure to Configuration Control Boards (CCBs), Engineering Change Requests (ECRs), Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) or engineering release processes. Exposure to Defence standards, quality systems or compliance frameworks. Experience supporting engineering development, manufacturing, acquisition or sustainment programs.
Education Degree, diploma or equivalent experience in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Technical Management, Quality, Configuration Management or a related discipline.
