About the role
As a Principle Engineer Substation at WSP ME, your role will involve overall leadership in the delivery of Substations projects with a focus on technical leadership responsibilities. You will be responsible for tasks such as design and leading primary substation systems, preparation of single-line diagrams and general arrangement layouts, short-circuit force calculations, development of transformer layouts, coordination with civil teams, and preparation of equipment specification documents and procurement support. In addition, you will be involved in resolving site queries during the construction phase of projects, maintaining project documentation, and leading proposal and bidding work for power & network related projects. Key Responsibilities: - Design and lead primary substation systems, including GIS/AIS configurations, transformer installations, circuit breaker selection, busbar arrangements, switchgear layouts, and disconnectors for voltages up to 765kV - Preparation of single-line diagrams (SLDs), general arrangement (GA) layouts, equipment sizing, and equipment layout plans for substations and transmission systems - Short-circuit force calculations, busbar sizing, fault current analysis, and equipment protection design - Design of earthing systems, including grounding layouts, ground grid system design, and lightning protection systems for substations - Review and development of control and protection systems for primary substations - Coordination with civil teams to design and integrate foundations, steel structures, and electrical cable routes - Development of equipment specification documents, bill of materials (BOM), and procurement support - Preparation of electrical interconnection diagrams, termination diagrams, cable schedules, and other supporting documentation - Detailed design and review of auxiliary systems, such as cooling systems, auxiliary power supplies, and battery systems - Coordination with external vendors and contractors to ensure the supply and installation of equipment - Resolving site queries during the construction phase of projects - Lead the proposal and bidding work for all power & network related projects Qualifications: - Possess a Graduate or Post Graduate Degree in Electrical engineering from an accredited institution - 12 to 16 years of experience in a supporting/lead role on large size capital projects in India/ME/UK - Prior experience in leading large design engineering teams performing Grid Substation design - Experience on HV Plant Design for large EHV Grid Substations - Familiarity with International standards and codes - Very good communication skills in English language - Familiarity with software tools like Auto CAD, ETAP - Self-motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field Join WSP, a global professional services consulting firm dedicated to designing lasting solutions in various sectors.
