About the role
The Opportunity
The Cloud Platform team at Wyze builds the scalable, reliable, and secure backend that powers our smart home ecosystem. As a Software Engineer on this team, you will design, develop, and operate core cloud services that support millions of devices and users worldwide. You’ll join a high-impact group that owns the foundation for current and next-generation Wyze products. You’ll work closely with mobile, firmware, data, and product teams to evolve our platform as we take on new device types, new AI experiences, and increased global scale.
This role is a strong fit for an engineer who is not only excited by distributed systems and production-grade backend work, but also curious about the product itself - someone who looks beyond how a device works today and thinks about how software, intelligence, and platform capabilities can make it more useful for customers over time. We’re looking for builders who like to ask questions, explore what’s possible, and help shape the next generation of customer experiences at Wyze.
If you like thinking in terms of SLAs, latency budgets, and failure modes - and also enjoy partnering cross-functionally to imagine and build what comes next - this role is for you.
What You’ll Do
- Design and develop highly scalable, highly available cloud services using Java (Spring Boot) and cloud-native technologies.
- Build and optimize microservices and APIs to support Wyze smart devices, mobile apps, and partner integrations.
- Own services end-to-end: design, implementation, testing, deployment, and production operations.
- Ensure reliability, observability, and performance through robust monitoring, alerting, and logging solutions.
- Utilize AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, etc.) to accelerate cloud infrastructure work, including scripting, IaC authoring, and troubleshooting.
- Implement and enforce security best practices across authentication, authorization, data access, and service communication.
- Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve production incidents and performance bottlenecks, driving root cause analysis and preventive fixes.
- Participate in code reviews, design reviews, and technical documentation, and help raise the engineering bar on the team
What You Bring
- 3+ years of experience in backend development with Java, Go, or Python
- Hands-on experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and cloud-native architectures (microservices, containers, managed services)
- Strong knowledge of microservices and distributed systems (scalability, resilience, consistency, and latency)
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, DynamoDB, etc.), including schema design and query optimization
- Demonstrated ability to incorporate AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, etc.) into day-to-day workflows to accelerate velocity
- Strong problem-solving skills, solid understanding of systems and networking fundamentals, and the ability to debug complex issues in production
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced, iterative environment, collaborate cross‑functionally with product/firmware/mobile/data teams, and take ownership of projects from design to delivery
+ nice to haves
- Excited by consumer electronics, IoT, smart home, or other customer-facing connected products
- Genuine excitement about how AI can expand what products can do for customers in real-world settings
- Examples of side projects, open-source work, prototypes, home automations, or other builder-style work that demonstrate curiosity, creativity, and passion for technology
- Hands-on experience with Terraform or other Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools is a strong plus
*This role participates in a cloud on-call rotation for approximately one week each month to support critical production systems.
Compensation
The base pay range for this role is $107,000 – $160,000 per year.
More about us

Today, Wyze is focused on its next stage of company building. We’re scaling our platform, strengthening our operating rigor, and investing for long-term growth, while staying true to the belief that everyday people deserve access to great technology. This is a phase defined less by headlines and more by execution, craft, and durable impact.
Our people are central to that work. Wyze has been recognized as a Best Place to Work by Built in Seattle and Seattle Business Magazine, but what matters most is the environment we’re building now: one where smart, pragmatic builders take ownership, move fast, and shape what comes next.
