Job description Job Title: SR. Linux Administrator Location: Onsite (Bangalore or Chennai) Experience Level: 4 to 6 years Employment Type: Full-Time Role Overview We are seeking an experienced SR. Linux Administrator to manage and support our enterprise-scale Linux infrastructure within the Managed Services team. The role involves leading a team of engineers responsible for the availability, performance, and security of Linux-based systems hosted on-premises and on cloud platforms (Azure/AWS). The ideal candidate should have deep expertise in Linux administration, troubleshooting, automation, and operational governance, with proven experience in incident management and leading technical teams in a 24x7 support environment. Key Responsibilities Lead and mentor a team of Linux support engineers to deliver high-quality operations and support. Oversee incident, problem, and change management activities in alignment with ITIL processes. Act as a technical escalation point for complex issues related to Linux infrastructure and associated services. Ensure SLA adherence for ticket response and resolution (P1, P2 priorities). Manage patching, backup, monitoring, and performance tuning across Linux servers. Troubleshoot OS, kernel, storage, and network-related issues efficiently. Implement and maintain automation scripts for operations using Shell, Bash, Ansible, or Python . Manage and optimize enterprise monitoring, alerting, and reporting tools. Collaborate with cloud, network, and security teams for cross-platform issues and service delivery. Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and drive preventive and corrective actions. Review configurations, implement best practices, and enforce compliance with security baselines. Maintain technical documentation, SOPs, and runbooks for operational readiness. Participate in customer discussions, service reviews, and internal governance meetings. Technical Skills Required In-depth experience with Linux distributions (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, SUSE). Strong command of system administration , performance tuning, and troubleshooting. Hands-on experience with automation and configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef). Expertise in Shell scripting / Bash , with working knowledge of Python for automation. Experience managing Web, Application, and Database servers on Linux (Apache, Nginx, Tomcat, MySQL, PostgreSQL). Knowledge of LVM, SAN/NAS storage configuration , and file system management . Familiarity with virtualization and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, VMware). Experience with monitoring tools such as Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus, or Grafana. Understanding of networking fundamentals , firewalls, and load balancers. Good understanding of security hardening, patch management , and compliance (CIS benchmarks, vulnerability remediation). Leadership & Soft Skills Strong leadership and people management capabilities. Ability to guide, motivate, and upskill team members. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Analytical thinker with strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities. Ability to work under pressure and manage critical incidents in a 24x7 environment. Qualifications Bachelors degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field. Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC-2/3) Mandatory. ITIL Foundation certification or working experience in ITIL-based environments is preferred. Cloud certifications (e.g., Azure Administrator , AWS SysOps ) are desirable. Work Environment 24x7 Managed Services setup with rotational shift and on-call responsibilities. Exposure to hybrid environments (on-premise and cloud-based Linux systems). Opportunities to work on automation, cloud migration, and infrastructure modernisation projects.
