CAD Engineer

Driving the development of precise CAD models and technical documentation that enable the robot to achieve manufacturable designs with accurate assemblies, tolerances, and material specifications for reliable production, while accelerating design iterations through detailed 3D modeling, simulation support, and comprehensive technical documentation. Core Responsibilities Creating detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, and technical drawings for mechanical components, actuators, and complete robot systems Supporting design teams with rapid modeling iterations, design visualization, and manufacturing-ready documentation Managing CAD data, version control, and design documentation standards across all mechanical subsystems Collaborating with manufacturing teams to ensure designs meet production requirements and cost targets Hard Skills Professional CAD experience with expert-level SolidWorks proficiency and advanced assembly modeling Technical drawing standards: GD&T, tolerancing, surface finishes, and manufacturing specifications Sheet metal design, weldments, and mechanical fastening systems, with an understanding of manufacturing processes CAD data management: PDM systems, version control, and collaborative design workflows Visualization and rendering skills for design presentations and marketing materials Essential Mindset Adaptability & Startup Resilience: Thrives in uncertain environments with changing priorities, comfortable with resource constraints Communication & Collaboration: Effectively explains technical concepts to diverse audiences and collaborates constructively across teams Ownership & Initiative: Takes full responsibility for outcomes and proactively identifies and solves problems without waiting for direction Learning Agility: Rapidly acquires new skills, stays current with industry trends, and actively shares knowledge with teammates Mission Alignment: Genuinely excited about xTerra's vision, with a deep understanding of target users and problems being solved
