Staff Data Platform Engineer

As a Staff Data Platform Engineer at Zendesk, you will play a crucial role in designing and developing advanced data infrastructure that powers the Zendesk Data Platform. Your responsibilities will include leading architecture and roadmap, delivering platform capabilities at scale, and raising the engineering bar. Key Responsibilities: - Lead architecture and roadmap by defining and evolving the end-to-end data platform architecture across ingestion, transformation, storage, and governance. - Establish standardized data contracts, schemas, documentation, and tooling to improve consistency and reduce time-to-data for analytics and product teams. - Lead build-vs-buy evaluations and pilot new technologies to enhance reliability, speed, or cost. - Design and deliver secure, highly-available data services and pipelines handling large-scale, mission-critical workloads. - Establish SLOs/SLIs for data pipelines, implement robust observability, and incident response. - Define standards for data modeling, testing, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, and code quality. - Conduct deep root cause analyses and drive systemic fixes to improve resilience and developer experience. Qualifications Required: - 10+ years of industry experience with at least 5+ years as a DevOps Engineer. - 4+ years of hands-on experience with designing and building CI/CD pipelines using tools like Github Actions and Jenkins. - 3+ years leading complex, cross-team initiatives at the Senior/Staff level. - Experience with at least one public cloud, preferably AWS. - Proficiency in infrastructure automation tools like Terraform and CloudFormation. - Deep understanding of containers and experience with Kubernetes & Docker. - Intermediate experience with one of the programming languages: Python, Go, Java, Scala. - Experience with developing monitoring and observability frameworks for data pipelines. - Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. - Ability to work independently and in a team, with a proactive approach to improving processes and outcomes.
