About the role
As a sharp and high-ownership QA Engineer at our company, you will play a crucial role in moving towards automation-first testing while also ensuring strong manual testing practices. Your collaboration with product and engineering teams will be essential in enhancing release confidence, early issue detection, and establishing scalable QA processes to support the fast-paced nature of our startup. Your primary focus will be on automation, where you will: - Identify high-value product flows and incrementally expand automation coverage - Contribute to developing an automation strategy for regression, smoke tests, and core workflows - Integrate automation into CI pipelines to enhance release confidence - Enhance long-term test coverage without impeding team velocity Additionally, your responsibilities will include manual testing, where you will: - Take ownership of manual QA for web app releases including regression, smoke, exploratory, and edge-case testing - Develop and maintain test plans, test cases, and lightweight QA checklists - Reproduce bugs consistently and provide clear bug reports with steps, expected vs actual results, severity, and supporting logs/screenshots - Collaborate with engineers to define acceptance criteria and testing scope before releases - Validate integrations/APIs using tools like Postman or cURL - Monitor recurring issues and problematic areas to enhance QA processes To be successful in this role, you should possess: - 3+ years of QA experience - Hands-on experience or a strong interest in test automation - Proficiency in manual testing fundamentals such as exploratory, regression, and risk-based testing - Systematic thinking and ability to anticipate failure modes - Strong communication skills for effective bug reporting and collaboration across teams - Comfort working in evolving environments and creating structure amidst ambiguity - Familiarity with web technologies, debugging concepts, and experience in fast-paced team environments Bonus points for experience with automation tools like Playwright, Cypress, or Selenium, setting up QA processes in a startup, familiarity with CI/CD QA gates, automated test reporting, or performance testing basics. In the future, the focus will be on Automation-First QA to automate critical regression paths, add automated smoke tests to CI, and enhance test coverage and release confidence without hindering development speed. In the initial 60-90 days, your success will be measured by identifying automation candidates, establishing reliable regression and testing structures, improving bug reporting efficiency, reducing recurring issues, and aligning the automation roadmap with product velocity.
