About the role
Job Summary We are looking for a skilled COBOL Developer / Mainframe Engineer with strong hands-on experience in Open VMS , COBOL, JCL, CICS, VMS and VSAM/DB2 to support and enhance enterprise mainframe applications. The ideal candidate will be responsible for application development, maintenance, batch processing, production support, troubleshooting, and incident resolution. Experience in the Telecom/Billing domain is highly preferred. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, enhance, and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL, JCL, CICS, VSAM, and DB2.Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.Perform coding, unit testing, system testing, and deployment activities.Support batch processing, job scheduling, and production operations.Monitor and resolve production issues, incidents, and application failures.Conduct root cause analysis and implement preventive measures.Troubleshoot performance issues and optimize existing applications.Collaborate with business analysts, testing teams, and stakeholders for successful project delivery.Prepare technical documentation, support guides, and operational procedures.Participate in release management, change management, and production deployments.Ensure adherence to coding standards, security policies, and best practices. Required Skills Strong experience in COBOL programming and mainframe application development.Hands-on expertise in JCL (Job Control Language).Strong working knowledge of CICS and online transaction processing.Experience with VSAM and DB2 (Mandatory).Knowledge of batch processing, job scheduling, and production support activities.Experience in incident management, troubleshooting, and defect resolution.Understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and maintenance processes.Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills.Experience working in Agile or Waterfall delivery environments. Preferred Skills Telecom and Billing domain experience.Exposure to scheduling tools such as Control-M, CA7, or equivalent.Familiarity with change management and release processes.Knowledge of performance tuning and optimization techniques for mainframe applications. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.Relevant experience in Mainframe Development and Production Support environments. Nice to Have Experience with modernization or integration of mainframe applications.Exposure to DevOps practices and automation in mainframe environments.Understanding of distributed systems interacting with mainframe applications.
