Job Description – IBM i (iSeries / AS400) System Administrator

Location: Remote

We are looking for an experienced IBM i (iSeries / AS400) System Administrator to support day-to-day operations and ensure the stability, availability, and performance of enterprise systems.

This role acts as a key bridge between infrastructure and application teams, focusing on operational support, incident management, and environment health rather than development or migration activities.

Key Responsibilities

Provide daily operational support for IBM i (iSeries / AS400) environments

Monitor system performance, availability, and job scheduling

Manage batch jobs, queues, and system workloads

Perform backup and recovery operations and ensure data integrity

Apply PTFs (Program Temporary Fixes) and system patches as required

Handle incident, problem, and change management (ITIL processes)

Coordinate with application and infrastructure teams for issue resolution

Manage user profiles, security settings, and access control

Support system tuning, capacity monitoring, and performance optimization

Ensure smooth operations of production and non-production environments

Required Skills

Strong experience in IBM i / iSeries / AS400 System Administration

Knowledge of OS/400 or IBM i operating system

Experience with job scheduling, spool files, and message handling

Understanding of backup/recovery tools and procedures

Experience in system monitoring and troubleshooting

Knowledge of CL commands and basic system utilities

Familiarity with ITIL processes (Incident, Change, Problem Management)

Good to Have

Exposure to DB2 for i (DB2/400)

Experience with high availability (HA/DR) environments

Knowledge of performance tuning and system upgrades

Experience working in large enterprise support environment
