Job Title: - Senior Associate – Data Engineer (Databricks & ETL)

Job Summary: - This role will support the knowledge transfer and operational handover of an enterprise data platform to a Major Pharma client’s in-house data engineering team. The Senior Associate – Data Engineer will work hands-on with the client’s junior data engineers — pairing on live pipelines, conducting technical knowledge transfer sessions, building operational documentation, and ensuring the client team can independently own and operate the platform post-transition.
Job Responsibilities: -
Data Engineering & Platform Operations
Develop, maintain, and optimize data pipelines on Databricks covering ingestion, transformation, data quality checks, and downstream data distribution
Work with workflow orchestration tools (Tidal / Apache Airflow or equivalent) to manage scheduling, dependencies, and failure handling
Support DEV → UAT → PRD pipeline promotions including code review, testing, and environment validation
Monitor production jobs, triage failures, and resolve data quality incidents within agreed SLAs
Work with AWS S3 for data lake storage, file-based ingestion, and cross-system data movement
Write clean, maintainable PySpark and SQL code following established coding standards and best practices
Knowledge Transfer & Documentation
Conduct structured, hands-on knowledge transfer sessions with the client’s junior data engineers — covering pipeline architecture, business logic, operational procedures, and troubleshooting approaches
Create and maintain clear technical documentation: SOPs, runbooks, Source-to-Target Mappings (STTMs), Technical Design Documents (TDDs), and data dictionaries
Validate that the client’s engineers can independently execute day-to-day operations before sign-off at each transition milestone
Participate actively in sprint-based delivery cycles — sprint planning, daily standups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives
Incident & Change Management Support
Respond to and resolve L2/L3 data incidents during the transition and hypercare period within agreed timelines
Support change requests by assessing pipeline impact, implementing changes, and conducting appropriate testing
Follow ITIL-aligned incident and change management processes as defined by the Senior Transition Manager
Track and report incident resolution status to the Transition Manager
Collaboration & Coordination
Work closely with the Senior Transition Manager on workstream planning, daily progress, and status reporting
Collaborate with client technology team members for requirement clarification, walkthroughs, and delivery sign-offs
Coordinate with the internal Axtria team for pipeline context, code walkthroughs, and parallel-run support
Proactively flag risks, blockers, and dependencies to the Transition Manager
Job Requirements: -
Overall 3–5 years of hands-on experience in data engineering
Strong proficiency in Databricks — Delta Lake, PySpark, Databricks Workflows, and notebook-based development
Experience building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines in a production environment
Proficiency in SQL and Python for data transformation and pipeline logic
Exposure to workflow orchestration tools — Tidal, Apache Airflow, or equivalent
Experience with cloud storage and data movement — AWS S3 preferred
Ability to write clear, structured technical documentation (SOPs, runbooks, STTMs, TDDs)
Good communication skills — comfortable explaining technical concepts to less experienced peers and non-technical stakeholders
Experience working in Agile / Scrum delivery teams
Understanding of data quality frameworks and basic incident/change management practices
Qualification: -
BE / B.Tech / M.Tech / MBA
Must Have Skills: -
Hands-on Databricks experience — PySpark, Delta Lake, and Databricks Workflows
Strong SQL and Python skills for data engineering use cases
Experience building and operating ETL/ELT pipelines in a production environment
Ability to create and maintain technical documentation (SOPs, runbooks, STTMs)
Good verbal and written communication skills in English
