About bswift

bswift is a leading benefits administration technology company, delivering modern, cloud-based solutions to employers and health plans across the United States. Our platform supports millions of employees and processes some of the most complex benefits transactions in the industry. As bswift continues to scale and modernize its data platform, we are building a world-class database engineering team — and our India team is a critical part of that vision.

Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator to join bswift’s growing India team. This is a high-impact, hands-on role that owns the health, performance, and reliability of our SQL Server and AWS database environments during the off-shift window — a critical coverage period for our production systems.

You will join bswift’s India engineering team and partner closely with both local engineering colleagues and the US-based database architecture and engineering team. This is not just a maintenance role — you will actively contribute to platform modernization initiatives, automation efforts, cloud architecture improvements, and data pipeline development as bswift evolves its data infrastructure.

We are looking for someone who brings a product and engineering mindset to database work — someone who defaults to automation over manual process, thinks about scalability and reliability proactively, and is eager to grow their skills on a modern cloud-native data stack.

Key Responsibilities

• Core Database Engineering

• Proactively tune and optimize database performance through query analysis, indexing strategies, execution plan review, profiling, and continuous monitoring.

• Own day-to-day administration of SQL Server 2019+ environments, ensuring performance, availability, scalability, and security across production and lower environments.

• Execute core database engineering functions: backups, restores, environment refreshes, data de-identification, Always On availability groups, index and statistics maintenance, and space management.

• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to performance, blocking, deadlocks, and failed jobs using SQL queries and monitoring tools (Idera, Redgate).

• Participate in on-call rotation via PagerDuty and respond to database alerts and incidents during the off-shift window.

• Cloud & AWS Database Engineering

• Design, maintain, and optimize cloud-based database architectures on AWS, including MySQL RDS, Aurora PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, and SQL Server on EC2.

• Architect and maintain high availability and disaster recovery solutions, with deep expertise in SQL Server Always On Availability Groups, multi-AZ deployments, replication, automated backups, point-in-time recovery, and failover testing.

• Contribute to the evolution of bswift’s cloud-native data platform, including work with AWS Glue, Lambda, OpenSearch, and Bedrock as the platform matures.

• Automation, DevOps & Engineering Mindset

• Bring a product and engineering mindset to database operations — automation is the default, not the exception. We expect this person to actively reduce manual toil through scalable, repeatable solutions.

• Implement and expand automation using SQL Agent Jobs, PowerShell scripting, Terraform, and CloudFormation to improve reliability and reduce operational overhead.

• Participate in release management, including database deployments and production change execution.

• Contribute to the improvement and documentation of database administration standards, runbooks, and operational processes.

• Data Pipelines & Cross-Team Collaboration.

• Build, enhance, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines (including AWS Glue) to support analytics, reporting, and data operations.

• Collaborate with US-based engineering, DevOps, and analytics teams across time zones to ensure smooth data operations and alignment on architectural standards.

• Partner with development teams to support schema design, query optimization, and best practices in a distributed team model.

Required Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of hands-on Microsoft SQL Server administration, including performance tuning, optimization, and production operations.

• Deep expertise with SQL Server Always On Availability Groups and HA/DR architecture.

• Strong automation mindset — demonstrated track record of building scripted, repeatable solutions rather than relying on manual processes (PowerShell, SQL Agent, IaC).

• Solid experience with AWS database technologies, including RDS (MySQL/PostgreSQL), Aurora, DynamoDB, and SQL Server on EC2.

• Experience with database monitoring and diagnostic tools such as Idera and Redgate.

• Demonstrated ability to participate in on-call rotation and manage critical production incidents.

• Strong SQL development proficiency, including complex stored procedures, performance troubleshooting, and execution plan analysis.

• Functional knowledge of ETL/ELT tools and data pipeline processes (AWS Glue experience a strong plus).

• Experience performing production deployments and participating in structured release management processes.

• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Comfort working in a distributed, cross-timezone team environment with US-based counterparts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • • Experience with AWS-native data services including Glue, Lambda, OpenSearch, and Bedrock.

  • • Knowledge of data modeling, schema design, and enterprise data architecture principles.

  • • Exposure to Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, CloudFormation) and database DevOps practices.

  • • Familiarity with NoSQL, caching technologies (e.g., ElastiCache/Redis), or event-driven architectures.

  • • Experience working in a regulated industry such as healthcare, insurance, or financial services.

  • • Knowledge of or interest in AI/ML-integrated data workflows as bswift expands its data platform capabilities.

  • Shift & Team Structure

  • Shift: 10:30 PM – 7:30 AM CT (10:00 AM – 7:00 PM IST)
