Data Visualization Engineer - LookML

As a Data Visualization Engineer at Levi Strauss & Co., you will play a crucial role in developing and scaling executive-level dashboards to deliver data-driven insights to leadership. Your primary responsibility will involve designing, building, and optimizing Looker models and visualizations. Additionally, you will guide and mentor junior data visualization engineers. Key Responsibilities: - Design, develop, and maintain LookML models, explores, and derived tables to establish a scalable and efficient data layer. - Ensure best practices in LookML architecture, governance, and security to uphold data integrity and performance. - Optimize query performance by structuring LookML effectively and leveraging BigQuery optimizations. - Collaborate with data engineers to ensure efficient data structuring and proper ingestion into Looker. - Build executive-level dashboards using Looker, Looker Studio, and Tableau, integrating seamlessly with BigQuery and other cloud data sources. - Develop interactive and self-serve reporting experiences for business users to explore and analyze data independently. - Maintain consistent branding and storytelling across dashboards for clarity and impact. - Work closely with stakeholders to understand reporting needs and translate them into scalable solutions. - Guide and mentor junior data visualization engineers to enhance their expertise across visualization platforms. - Advocate for data governance and best practices, ensuring consistency and education on data visualization capabilities. Qualifications & Skills: Technical Expertise: - 10-14 years of experience in data visualization and analytics, with a focus on LookML modeling and dashboarding. - Proficiency in Tableau, Looker Studio, SQL (particularly BigQuery), and Git/GitHub for version control. - Hands-on experience in optimizing LookML performance and writing efficient queries for large datasets. - Understanding of data modeling concepts and data warehouses. Business & Soft Skills: - Ability to translate business requirements into data-driven solutions. - Experience collaborating with executives to define KPIs and data visualization strategies. - Strong communication and mentorship skills. - Passion for data governance and best practices in enterprise analytics. Nice to Have: - Experience with CI/CD pipelines for LookML deployment. - Familiarity with dbt and modern data engineering practices. - Knowledge of other BI tools and Tableau Server administration.
