Pay Rate: €50 EUR per hour
EVM Department Overview:
The Engineering-Validation-Maintenance (EVM) department is a motivated and dynamic team supporting the technical infrastructure of utilities, production, and laboratory areas at the Vaccines & Prevention site in Leiden.
Operating in a highly innovative and challenging environment, the department supports the development of advanced therapies through a broad portfolio of projects aimed at improving and sustaining site operations. The Compliance group ensures proper qualification and validation of GMP-critical equipment and oversees overall quality and safety programs. Meanwhile, the maintenance teams (U&B, Automation, and Equipment) focus on asset maintenance management across the site.
Your Responsibilities & Impact
Aim of the Role:
As an EHS Engineer, you are primarily responsible for maintaining and improving site safety procedures, such as permit to work, LOTOTO, FARIP, working at heights, and hoisting operations. You serve as a subject matter expert, coaching colleagues to enhance overall safety within the EVM team.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee, develop, and continuously improve EH&S systems, processes, and best practices
Lead or support the implementation of EH&S standards within your area of expertise
Coach and mentor EVM team members to enhance safety awareness and practices
Conduct EH&S risk assessments
Provide EH&S assessments for projects
Participate in audits and inspections (e.g., ISO 14001:2015, internal/external EH&S audits, compliance with government agencies)
Lead or participate in incident investigations
Develop and deliver EH&S training on relevant safety topics

Required Education, Experience & Skills:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field

Minimum of 5 years' experience in EH&S

Familiarity with international Management System Standards (e.g., ISO 14001)

Experience in complex organizations during periods of change

Strong ability to connect with business functions and understand operational needs

Excellent communication skills; credible and confident communicator

Preferably certified or trained as a Primary Safety Expert (“HVK”) or equivalent

Fluent in written and spoken English Or Dutch
