Job Title: Fire Safety Advisor

Location: Chertsey, Surrey, KT16 0PZ (with a requirement to work cross site as/when required)

Role: Permanent

Job Summary:

The postholder will

Assist the Trust's professional lead (Fire Safety Manager) with all fire related issues at all of the Trust's properties.

The post holder will be responsible for technical and general Fire Safety Advice, completion of detailed fire risk assessments in accordance with HTM05 and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) order 2005, including the provision of Fire Safety training within the Trust.

The post will require a comprehensive approach to ensure that fire safety issues are recognized, planned and implemented in an appropriate manner.

Qualifications and Further Training

  • Essential:

  • Fire engineering/ Engineering science, or fire /fire safety degree; or extensive experience and knowledge in fire safety supplemented by a specialist qualification in fire engineering/fire safety to post graduate/diploma level or equivalent.

  • Certificate in training practice or extensive experience of preparing and delivering training.

  • Membership of a professional organization (e.g., the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) or the institute of Fire Prevention Officers (IFPO).

  • Desirable:

  • Corporate membership of professional organization (Institute of fire engineers; Institute of occupational safety and health)

  • Training in Healthcare Fire Safety.

  • Registered as a fire risk assessor with a recognized accreditation body.

  • Experience:

  • Essential:

  • Experience and knowledge of undertaking fire risk assessments.

  • Experience of preparing and delivering training courses.

  • Experience of working across organizational boundaries to improve standards.

  • Desirable:

  • Practical knowledge and interpretation of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

  • Knowledge:

  • Essential:

  • Client's Constitution

  • Trust vision, values and strategic objectives

  • In-depth knowledge of Firecode, Health Building Notes, and Building Regulations Approved Document B (fire safety)

  • In-depth Knowledge of:

  • Fire safety

  • Fire risk management

  • Fire legislation and codes of practice

  • Fire safety training

  • Desirable:

  • Practical knowledge and interpretation of the Building Regulations 2022.

Skills

  • Must be able to demonstrate, in relation to patients, visitors, colleagues and other individuals connected with the client.

  • You have knowledge & awareness of diversity and human rights as appropriate to your role

  • You are able to communicate effectively to ensure high standards of care, treatment, service or support as appropriate to your role,

  • Able to provide a customer focused service.

  • Ability to undertake fire safety audits, including in complex health care premises.

  • Other Requirements:

  • Able to demonstrate that you are honest, reliable and trustworthy

  • Treat patients, visitors, colleagues with respect

  • Ability to travel between Trust sites

  • Evidence of continuing professional development.

  • Ability to be flexible to meet the needs of the team, the service and the Trust
