Position: Solaris/SPARC Engineer
Position Description
This position is within the Unix Engineering team to act as the owner of the Solaris11/SPARC consolidation engineering.
This involves;
Designing and developing an environment to consolidate Solaris 10 zones onto a Solaris 11 environment
Design and development of the Solaris 11 environment for performance and resilience of compute, network, storage configuration and connectivity.
Certification of the Solaris 11 and hardware components.
Delivering and maintaining core builds for Solaris.
Bundling and testing sets of OS patches for Solaris.
Third Level escalation and problem resolution.
Ownership of the Solaris OS.
Position Specific Responsibilities and Accountabilities
The engineer will be responsible for all DB administration processes related to the lifecycle and management of the SPARC hardware and Solaris OS.
The engineer will deliver certified stacks using Solaris 10, Solaris 11, SPARC hardware (S7, T8 and older)
The engineer will be required to deliver global builds for use by deployment teams.
Writing technical documentation, including design documentation, training materials, and white papers
Writing automation to perform configuration of the Solaris 11 and SPARC environment for configuration of the hardware and software
Experience/ Exposure
Broad knowledge of RHEL, SUSE with deep knowledge of Solaris.
Experience and expert knowledge of Solaris Zones.
Experience running Solaris and Linux on various virtualisation platforms.
Experience running Solaris on SPARC and x86 hardware.
Strong scripting skills (python/shell/perl/ruby).
Good understanding of Availability and Clustering technologies Veritas Cluster Server.
Good understanding of EMC and 3PAR storage technologies.
Firm understanding of Unix configuration management tools (ansible)
Firm understanding of large-scale infrastructure / distributed computing concepts
Experience defining / documenting standards and processes in a large Enterprise environment
A team player with a proactive approach, commitment, flexibility, and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
Education/ Qualifications
University/comparable degree (or equivalent)
