About the role
Primary Responsibilities
Manage and support AWS RDS Aurora PostgreSQL environments for MDG platforms, including cluster configuration, scaling, monitoring, and maintenance
Ensure database performance, reliability, and availability by proactively tuning queries, managing indexes, and resolving production issues
Implement and maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions, including Aurora snapshots, point-in-time recovery, and Multi-AZ configurations
Collaborate with application, cloud, and data teams to support database design, deployments, and production releases
Automate DBA processes and improve operational efficiency using scripting and AWS-native tooling
Required Skills and Attributes
4–5 years of experience managing relational databases, with demonstrated expertise in PostgreSQL / Aurora PostgreSQL, including performance tuning and production support
3–5 years of experience working with AWS RDS (Aurora PostgreSQL preferred), including provisioning, cluster management, backups, parameter groups, monitoring, and failover
4+ years of strong SQL expertise in PostgreSQL, including query optimization, indexing strategies, and execution plan analysis
3–5 years of experience implementing high availability and disaster recovery solutions, including Aurora clustering, Multi-AZ deployments, and read replicas
3–4 years of experience with database monitoring and alerting tools, including CloudWatch and Aurora Performance Insights
3–5 years of experience with database security and compliance practices, including encryption, IAM/database access controls, and audit logging
Preferred Skills and Attributes
Hands-on experience with AWS Aurora PostgreSQL-specific features, such as clustering, read replicas, failover, and performance insights (1–3 years)
3–5 years of experience in a production support environment, including incident response, root cause analysis, and on-call rotations
Experience supporting Master Data Governance (MDG) or similar data platforms (2+ years)
3+ years of experience supporting enterprise data platforms, including integration with upstream/downstream systems
Familiarity with healthcare or highly regulated environments (HIPAA, data privacy, audit controls) (2+ years)
Experience tuning large-scale Aurora PostgreSQL workloads, including high transaction and large dataset environments
Strong collaboration skills with application, cloud, and data teams in a fast-paced environment
2–4 years of experience with scripting/automation (PowerShell, Python, or shell scripting) to support database operations
Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation for RDS/Aurora provisioning (1–3 years)
Hands-on experience with database migration tools, including AWS DMS for PostgreSQL/Aurora migrations (1–3 years)
Working knowledge of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and version control tools (Git) (1–3 years)
Exposure to complementary AWS data services, such as Redshift, DynamoDB, or S3-based pipelines
Relevant certifications, such as AWS Certified Database Specialty or AWS Solutions Architect
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a fast-paced environment
