About the Role
Join Lockheed Martin’s advanced Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) engineering team as a Design Engineer. Drive innovation in rapid prototyping and R&D by designing, integrating, and testing cutting-edge UAS components and systems. Responsibilities
- Design and develop major UAS system components and advanced prototypes for military and defense applications - Create detailed layouts, sketches, and notes to support design proposals from concept to production - Analyze key design factors including manufacturability, material availability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness - Oversee assembly layouts, device mechanisms, and part details to ensure accuracy and optimal performance - Review and verify completed drawings for clarity, compliance, and technical precision - Identify areas for improvement, recommend design revisions, and resolve deficiencies - Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering and manufacturing teams for seamless project execution - Ensure configuration management and traceability using PLM/ERP tools
Required Skills and Experience
- Minimum 6 years mechanical design experience in Military/Defense/UAS systems
- Demonstrated success in delivering design concepts, detailed drawings, and hardware to prototype or production
- Proficient in PLM/ERP tools (e.g., Windchill) for change control and configuration management
- Experience in small air vehicle design and development projects
- At least 2 years using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software
- Experience with Bill Of Materials (BOM) management
- At least 2 years of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- 4+ years working with complex mechanical/electrical concepts
- Part tolerancing experience
- Strong analytical skills in resolving weight, performance, and requirements trade-offs
- Collaborative approach to team-based design projects
Preferred Skills
- Advanced proficiency with current UAS technologies
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams
- Familiarity with rapid prototyping tools and agile project methodologies
