Required Technical and Professional Expertise 7+ Years of Experience in Datacom Datacom/DB DBUTLTY : Mastery of this utility is critical for creating, managing, and maintaining database resources, including system areas like the CXX (Directory), LXX (Log), and FXX (Force). Multi-User Facility (MUF) : Expert-level understanding of the MUF environment, including starting/stopping MUF, configuring startup options, and managing connectivity. Datacom Datadictionary : Skills in managing the Datadictionary structure, including defining databases, status/version rules, and system security. Dataquery SQL Modes : Proficiency in using Dataquery for data manipulation and understanding the differences between DQL (Data Query Language) and SQL modes. Performance Tuning : Identifying bottlenecks, optimizing SQL queries, and using tools like the SQL Performance Analyzer to ensure high-volume transactional efficiency. Database Design : Creating efficient schemas, defining relationships, and using Datacom Presspack for data compression to optimize storage (DASD). Mainframe Infrastructure Systems Skills z/OS Operating System : Working knowledge of z/OS, including JCL (Job Control Language) for executing batch jobs and interacting with system facilities like SDSF . Storage Dataset Management : Understanding of DASD storage, VSAM (Virtual Storage Access Method) linear datasets, and tools like the VSAM Migration Tool . Security Management : Implementing security through RACF , ACF2 , or Top Secret , and managing user permissions and encryption protocols. Subsystem Integration : Familiarity with how Datacom interacts with other mainframe subsystems like CICS (for online transactions) and IMS . Operational Professional Responsibilities Backup and Recovery : Developing and testing disaster recovery procedures to prevent data loss. Upgrades and Maintenance : Planning and implementing Datacom upgrades (e.g., from version 14.0 to 15.1) and applying software patches. 24/7 Support : Participating in on-call rotations to resolve critical system incidents and maintain Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
