About the role
About the Role We are looking for a skilled Database Administrator (SQL Server DBA) to join our Data Platform Operations team. The role is responsible for administering, optimizing, and modernizing Microsoft SQL Server environments to ensure high availability, performance, security, and data integrity for business-critical applications. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with SQL Server administration, SSIS, performance tuning, backup and recovery, database migrations, and cloud modernization initiatives such as Azure SQL Database. This role requires close collaboration with application, infrastructure, and data teams to deliver reliable database services while ensuring operational excellence and business continuity. Key Responsibilities Administer, maintain, and optimize Microsoft SQL Server environments across production and non-production systems. Perform database installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, and security hardening activities. Monitor database health, performance, capacity, and availability through proactive maintenance and regular health checks. Manage database backup, restore, disaster recovery, Always On Availability Groups, and log shipping. Optimize SQL Server performance through query tuning, indexing strategies, and performance analysis. Support SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) packages, including deployment, scheduling, troubleshooting, and monitoring. Execute database migration and modernization initiatives, including SQL Server to Azure SQL Database migrations. Troubleshoot L2/L3 production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement preventive measures. Automate routine database administration tasks using PowerShell, T-SQL, or other scripting tools. Collaborate with development, infrastructure, and application teams to support ETL processes, deployments, and data integration. Maintain operational documentation, change records, and ensure adherence to ITIL processes and data governance standards. Support legacy database retirement, decommissioning, and data lifecycle management initiatives. Requirements 3 5 years of experience as a Database Administrator with strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server (2016 or later). Strong knowledge of SQL Server architecture, query optimization, indexing, and database performance tuning. Hands-on experience with SSIS, SQL Server Agent, and ETL workflows. Experience with backup & recovery, Always On Availability Groups, log shipping, and disaster recovery planning. Exposure to Azure SQL Database, Managed Instance, or other cloud database migration projects. Proficiency in T-SQL, PowerShell, or other scripting languages for automation. Experience with database monitoring, capacity planning, and performance baseline analysis. Strong understanding of ITIL processes, incident management, problem management, and change management. Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment. Willingness to work in the US time zone. Experience in legacy database decommissioning and data lifecycle management is an added advantage.
