About the role
As a Lead Android Engineer at PhysicsWallah, you will have the opportunity to play a crucial role in developing scalable and high-performance mobile apps that cater to millions of learners across India. Your responsibilities will include: - Architecting, building, and maintaining mission-critical Android apps for live learning, assessments, content delivery, and commerce. - Driving the technical roadmap for Android, focusing on quality, scalability, performance, and modularity. - Mentoring and guiding SDE-1s and SDE-2s in code quality, architecture, design reviews, and best practices. - Collaborating with product, design, QA, and backend teams to deliver cohesive features and product experiences. - Leading the adoption of modern Android paradigms such as Jetpack Compose, Modularization, and KMM. - Ensuring adherence to accessibility, analytics, offline support, and crash-free metrics. - Owning and improving CI/CD, release processes, and observability for Android systems. Qualifications required for this role include: - 5+ years of deep hands-on Android development experience. - Mastery of Kotlin, Android SDK, and Jetpack components (Compose, ViewModel, Room, Navigation). - Strong experience with Jetpack Compose in production-grade apps. - Proven track record of leading Android feature/module teams or projects. - Strong experience with modularization, scalable architecture, code splitting, and dependency management. - Excellent debugging, testing (unit, UI), and observability practices. - Working knowledge of Kotlin Multiplatform Mobile (KMM) and cross-platform architecture patterns. - Experience leading feature flagging, A/B testing, or remote config at scale. - Exposure to compose animations, motion design, and custom views. - Familiarity with CI/CD, Gradle performance tuning, and release automation. Additionally, the ideal candidate for this role is expected to: - Own Android delivery end-to-end with a hands-on approach. - Elevate the team technically through code reviews, design sessions, and pair programming. - Work closely with design and product to shape scalable user experiences. - Be comfortable with ambiguity, quick iterations, and performance-sensitive decisions. A B.Tech / B.E. in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent is required for this position, or demonstrable expertise via shipped apps, GitHub, open-source, or community contributions.
