Role & responsibilities Role - AIX LPAR Operations Engineer Shift - US EST time Zone - Rotational shift (24/7) Job Location -Pune Balewadi _ 5 Days Work From Office Position Summary The AIX LPAR Operations Engineer provides day-to-day operational support for 1,500 LPARs across 50 IBM Power Systems frames. Operating in a shift model to ensure 24-hour coverage, this role is responsible for maintaining the reliability, performance, and availability of AIX workloads supporting Tier 1 and Tier 2 applications. The engineer will contribute to automation initiatives that reduce manual toil and improve consistency of operations across the estate. Key ResponsibilitiesLPAR Operations and Monitoring (Approximately 40%) Perform day-to-day administration of AIX LPARs, including provisioning, decommissioning, and resource allocation. Monitor system health, availability, and performance across enterprise AIX environments. Troubleshoot and resolve issues impacting LPAR stability and operational performance. Maintain system availability in accordance with Tier 1 and Tier 2 service level agreements (SLAs). Perform capacity adjustments and coordinate infrastructure changes as required. Ensure operational documentation remains current and accurate. OS Patching and Maintenance (Approximately 25%) Execute AIX operating system patching using Network Installation Manager (NIM). Apply Technology Levels (TLs), Service Packs (SPs), and PTF bundles following approved change management processes. Validate successful patch implementation through post-maintenance health checks. Support maintenance planning and execute scheduled maintenance activities during approved windows. Maintain patch compliance and system currency across managed environments. Automation and Continuous Improvement (Approximately 20%) Develop, maintain, and execute Ansible playbooks for operational automation. Contribute to GitHub Actions or similar CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure automation. Identify repetitive operational tasks suitable for automat Incident Response and Problem Management (Approximately 15%) Serve as the operational escalation point for AIX-related incidents during assigned shifts. Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring infrastructure issues. Implement corrective and preventive actions to minimize future incidents. Document incident timelines, resolutions, and problem records in ServiceNow. Participate in post-incident reviews and continuous service improvement initiatives. Required Skills & Qualification Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience in IBM AIX system administration within enterprise production environments. Strong experience with Network Installation Manager (NIM) for AIX OS image management, deployment, patching, and system maintenance. Proficiency in AIX performance monitoring and troubleshooting using tools such as topas, nmon, vmstat, and iostat . Hands-on experience managing Logical Partitions (LPARs) through Hardware Management Console (HMC) , including partition profile management, dynamic resource allocation, and Live Partition Mobility (LPM). Working knowledge of Virtual I/O Server (VIOS) 3.x and 4.x , including administration of vSCSI and Shared Ethernet Adapter (SEA) configurations. Experience with storage multipathing technologies, including MPIO and SDDPCM , for storage connectivity and performance management. Proficiency in developing and maintaining KornShell (ksh) and Bash scripts to automate routine operational and administrative tasks. Experience using ServiceNow for Incident, Change, and Problem Management. Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills Experience developing and maintaining Ansible playbooks for AIX infrastructure automation. Exposure to GitHub Actions or similar CI/CD platforms for infrastructure automation and deployment workflows. ITIL Foundation certification or equivalent knowledge of ITIL service management practices. IBM Certified Systems Expert AIX or equivalent IBM AIX certification. Experience supporting large-scale enterprise environments with 500+ AIX LPARs . Familiarity with capacity planning , performance analysis, and long-term performance trending. Proficiency in Python or Perl scripting for operational automation and infrastructure tooling. Experience working with enterprise automation, infrastructure-as-code, and continuous improvement initiatives.
