About the role
Role: Technical Lead – Engineering Function: Engineering / Software Development Location: Kolkata, India Type: Full-time Industry: AI, Medical SaaS, Dental Technology About Company The company builds medical AI SaaS for the U.S. dental market. Its all-in-one platform unifies analytics, scheduling, communications, payments, and marketing automation. AI-powered automation handles busywork like reminders and digital intake. Teams get real-time visibility into revenue drivers and patient retention. The company is mission-driven and execution-oriented, with 88 people and a fast-growing footprint in a largely under-digitized healthcare vertical. Position Overview This role owns the technical direction of the company's core SaaS platform — driving architecture decisions, engineering standards, and platform scalability across multiple product areas. The ideal candidate combines deep distributed systems expertise with hands-on execution, operating as the technical authority on business-critical services while mentoring engineers and influencing technology choices across teams. This is not a people-manager role; influence comes from technical depth and engineering judgment. Role & Responsibilities Design and evolve highly scalable, multi-tenant SaaS architecture — defining standards for distributed systems, API design, data modeling, and cloud-native deployment across teams Lead architecture reviews and technical design discussions for new features, platform services, and modernization initiatives; identify and resolve technical risks early Contribute hands-on to implementation of critical backend services, APIs, and platform components — reviewing complex code paths and owning resolution of high-severity production issues Architect and optimize AWS-based infrastructure including containerized workloads (ECS/EKS), serverless functions, CI/CD pipelines, and observability tooling (monitoring, alerting, distributed tracing) Drive engineering excellence across teams — raising the bar on code quality, test coverage, system reliability, and operational readiness through standards, tooling, and direct mentorship Evaluate and adopt AI-assisted development practices to improve engineering productivity and software quality, while maintaining strong security and code standards Partner with DevOps and product engineering teams to continuously improve deployment reliability, platform stability, and developer experience Must Have Criteria 10–15 years of software engineering experience building and scaling enterprise-grade SaaS products Proven track record architecting distributed systems and cloud-native applications at scale — solving real scalability, performance, and reliability challenges in production Deep backend expertise in Python and Django/Django REST Framework, with strong REST API and microservices design skills Hands-on AWS experience across ECS/EKS, Lambda, API Gateway, RDS, S3, CloudWatch, and IAM Strong data layer expertise: PostgreSQL query optimization, Redis caching strategies, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, and data modeling for high-throughput workloads Proficiency with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipeline design and maintenance Demonstrated ability to lead technical direction across multiple engineering teams — influencing architecture and standards without direct reporting authority Nice to Have Experience building or scaling multi-tenant SaaS platforms handling large transactional and analytical workloads Exposure to healthcare technology, health data standards, or data-intensive regulated applications Frontend architecture experience with React.js and TypeScript at scale Experience with Node.js in a microservices or event-driven context Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code and platform-level observability (distributed tracing, performance engineering) What We Offer End-to-end technical ownership of a platform used by thousands of dental practices across North America — with clear, measurable impact on revenue and patient care High-autonomy role with direct influence over architecture and engineering culture at a fast-scaling AI SaaS company Tight, cross-functional team with a bias toward execution and minimal bureaucracy Flexible scheduling and support for continuous learning and professional growth Opportunity to build in a large, under-digitized healthcare vertical at an early stage of platform maturity
