About the role
About The intern will support the assembly, integration, and validation of Red Balloon's near-space vehicle systems including balloons, aerostats, and airships. This role involves hands-on participation in mechanical, electrical, and avionics integration. Description Key Responsibilities | Mechanical Integration • Assist in assembly of balloon envelopes, gondolas, and payload structures • Support integration of winch systems, tether mechanisms, and ground equipment • Work on material handling, cutting, sewing, and sealing of envelope fabrics • Perform fit-checks, tolerance analysis, and design validation | Electrical & Avionics Integration • Support wiring harness routing and connector integration • Assist in mounting sensors, antennas, and electronic enclosures • Perform continuity checks, insulation tests, and power-up sequences | Testing & Validation • Support ground testing, tethered tests, and flight tests • Document integration procedures, issues, and resolutions • Maintain configuration management and as-built documentation Requirements • Pursuing or completed B.Tech/M.Tech in Aerospace, Mechanical, or related field • Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly and fabrication • Basic understanding of electrical systems and wiring • Familiarity with CAD tools (SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar) preferred • Ability to read technical drawings and assembly instructions • Physical ability to work with large structures and equipment • Detail-oriented with strong documentation skills DESIRED
