About the role
Hardware Engineer In a nutshell As a Hardware Engineer (Customer Devices), you'll be part of a team responsible for designing, implementing, remotely managing and continuously improving customer-facing hardware solutions across our stores. These devices play a direct role in how customers experience our brand, so we're looking for someone who understands the importance of reliable, well-managed technology in a retail environment. You'll work across the full device lifecycle, partnering with multiple teams and third parties to deliver scalable, secure and reliable customer technology solutions. You'll be someone who enjoys solving complex problems, embracing new technology and continuously improving how services are delivered within a fast-paced retail environment. What I am accountable for Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of customer-facing hardware solutions. Evaluate, test and deploy new customer device technologies. Lead store pilots and rollout activities for new hardware solutions. Design and maintain device management and support frameworks. Manage and support devices remotely at scale using MDM tooling. Drive device availability, security and configuration consistency. Support continuous improvement of hardware services and operational processes. Provide technical guidance and knowledge sharing within the engineering team. Collaborate with internal teams and third-party suppliers. Contribute to effective management of OPEX and CAPEX budgets. Support device decommissioning and end-of-life processes. Champion customer-focused engineering and service delivery.
Essential Criteria Strong experience delivering end-to-end hardware solutions. Experience evaluating, testing, deploying and supporting physical devices. Knowledge of hardware lifecycle management from implementation through to retirement. Experience using MDM or remote management tools such as SOTI, JAMF or SCCM. Strong knowledge of Windows, iOS and Android operating systems. Experience remotely managing and supporting devices at scale. Ability to diagnose and resolve hardware and device management issues. Experience designing or supporting highly available technology services. Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills. Ability to work effectively with third-party technology providers. Proven ability to identify and implement practical solutions to technical challenges. Self-motivated with a continuous improvement mindset. Comfortable learning and adopting new tools and technologies. Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.
Desirable Criteria Retail technology experience. Experience supporting customer-facing devices in a multi-site environment. Understanding of device security and compliance best practices. Experience managing large-scale technology deployments. Exposure to budget management and optimisation of technology spend.
