About the role
Role Summary The Senior Storage Engineer SDS will be responsible for Operating, and supporting enterprise Software Defined Storage platforms. The role requires strong hands-on expertise with shared file systems, Linux system administration, NAS platforms, and automation. The engineer will work closely with platform, storage, backup, security, and infrastructure teams to ensure highly available, scalable, and secure storage services across data centers. Key Responsibilities - Provide Operational support for Software Defined Storage and enterprise storage platforms - Troubleshoot performance, availability, and capacity issues across SDS stacks - Automate operational tasks using scripting and configuration tools - Work with security, backup, and compute teams to ensure integrated storage services - Participate in DR planning, upgrades, patching, and lifecycle management - Document architecture, SOPs, and operational runbooks - Support audits, compliance, and resiliency requirements Primary Job Description SDS (Must Have) 1. Shared File System - Solid hands-on experience with IBM GPFS / IBM Storage Scale - Cluster installation, expansion, and upgrades - Performance tuning, quorum management, and failure recovery - Experience with scale-out file systems in production environments 2. IBM Storage Servers - Hands-on experience with IBM ESS (Elastic Storage Server) / SSS - Hardware/software troubleshooting - Integration with GPFS/Storage Scale environments 3. Linux System Administration - Robust expertise in RHEL / Alma Linux - Kernel tuning, filesystem management (XFS, ext4) - System performance troubleshooting (CPU, memory, disk, network) - OS hardening, patching, and lifecycle management 4. Network Attached Storage (NAS) - Operational and administration experience with Dell/EMC Isilon - SmartConnect, snapshots, replication, quotas, and NDMP - Capacity planning and performance optimization 5. Scripting & Automation - Proficiency in Shell scripting (Bash) - Experience with automation tools (Ansible preferred) - Automating provisioning, monitoring, health checks, and reporting Secondary / Additional Job Description (Good to Have) 1. Security & Key Management - Experience with IBM Guardium Key Lifecycle Manager (GKLM) or SKLM - Encryption key lifecycle, rotation, and compliance support - Integration with storage encryption use cases 2. Block Storage & SAN - Experience with enterprise Block Storage solutions - Strong knowledge of Cisco SAN Fabric - Zoning, VSANs, multipathing - SAN troubleshooting and best practices 3. Backup & Data Protection - Experience with Commvault - Integration of NAS, file systems, and block storage with backup solutions - Backup troubleshooting, restores, and compliance validation Soft Skills & Collaboration - Strong problem-solving and analytical skills - Ability to work in 247 enterprise environments (on-call rotation) - Clear communication with cross-functional teams (Compute, Security, Backup, Network) - Experience working in large, multi-DC environments Preferred Qualifications - Bachelors degree in Engineering / Computer Science or equivalent experience Experience supporting mission-critical enterprise platforms Exposure to automation-driven or devops-aligned infrastructure teams Role Summary The Senior Storage Engineer SDS will be responsible for Operating, and supporting enterprise Software Defined Storage platforms.
