Founding Engineer

Role Overview: You will be the first technical hire at Scalemetrics and will be responsible for building the "Financial Brain" - an engine that processes global transactions with zero manual intervention and 100% audit-readiness. This role involves making architectural decisions, choosing the technology stack, and owning the system end-to-end. Key Responsibilities: - Design and ship the core platform including services, APIs, data flows, and infrastructure from scratch. - Translate vague business requirements into concrete systems, evaluate tools and trade-offs, and make build-vs-buy decisions. - Engineer AI-driven automation workflows for financial data extraction, classification, and reconciliation. - Architect the cloud platform by designing microservices and APIs, implementing authentication and authorization, and managing secure, scalable cloud infrastructure. - Build secure integrations with global accounting platforms ensuring GDPR and SOC2 compliance. - Collaborate directly with customers to gather feedback and shape the product roadmap. Qualifications Required: - Experience in building systems from scratch and owning problems without predefined solutions. - Demonstrated technical leadership through design decisions, stack evaluations, and setting direction. - 5+ years of experience in full-stack or backend platform work, preferably in FinTech, Audit Tech, or similar domains. - Proficiency in designing microservices, REST/GraphQL APIs, and connecting systems. - Implementation of secure authentication and authorization in production code using JWT, RBAC, and encryption. - Ability to architect cloud solutions for scale, multi-tenancy, and failure. - Experience with AI/LLM applications or a quick grasp of new technical domains. - Strong skills in Python and SQL for clean, modular code and data modeling. - Understanding of double-entry bookkeeping, revenue recognition, and reconciliations. - Interest in automating financial processes from accounting to reporting.
