Job Title: Automation Controls Engineer Location: Atlanta, GA (Onsite) Experience: 7+ years Duration: 12+ months, strong potential for extension or conversion

Job Summary

You’ll be supporting a new data infrastructure buildout at a Greenfield site. The role calls for deep hands-on work with industrial automation systems, equipment integration, data connectivity, and modern OT/IT architectures. Strong leadership, communication, and client-facing skills matter just as much as your technical background.

Key Responsibilities

Work with both IT and OT teams to integrate manufacturing systems into a unified data architecture

Design, develop, and implement automation solutions for data collection, transformation, and transfer

Configure, program, and troubleshoot PLC, SCADA, DCS, and related control platforms

Ensure secure, reliable movement of data from edge devices to central data systems

Support and deploy IIoT gateways, edge computing hardware, and connectivity layers

Perform integration work with industrial equipment across the facility

Document configurations, workflows, design decisions, and integration points

Provide technical support during commissioning and post-deployment activities

Troubleshoot field issues, perform calibration, and qualify control systems as needed

Must-Have Skills

Leadership, strong communication, and solid client-interaction skills

Deep hands-on background installing, troubleshooting, calibrating, and qualifying industrial controls

Strong PLC programming and troubleshooting experience (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Schneider, etc.)

Experience with DCS, PLC, SCADA platforms

Solid understanding of OPC UA/DA, MQTT, and common industrial protocols

Experience with equipment integration and OT data pipelines

IIoT platform and edge device experience

Strong expertise with Ignition (Inductive Automation) and Rockwell technologies

Knowledge of cybersecurity practices related to OT environments

Preferred Experience

Background in life sciences or GMP-regulated environments

Familiarity with validation protocols (IQ/OQ/PQ)

Experience working on Greenfield projects or large-scale infrastructure rollouts

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or closely related field
