Experience

∙ 22–25 years of progressive experience in Product Engineering, Technology Development, Manufacturing Engineering, or Industrialization.

∙ Proven experience in taking products from concept through commercial manufacturing.

∙ Experience in hydrogen technologies, fuel cells, batteries, electrolyzers, thermal systems, or advanced manufacturing preferred.

∙ Experience working with government agencies, defence programs, research institutions, or strategic technology partners will be advantageous.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The Head of Engineering will provide strategic leadership for Technology Development, Product Engineering, Process Engineering, Product Industrialization, Manufacturing Engineering, Application Engineering, Facility Engineering, Automation, and Technology Transfer to establish world-class manufacturing capabilities for next-generation fuel cell systems.

The role will lead the complete engineering

lifecycle—from concept development and prototype validation through commercial product realization, manufacturing readiness, facility expansion, automation, and continuous product improvement—while supporting strategic growth initiatives in hydrogen and fuel cell technologies.

The position will play a pivotal role in developing scalable engineering capabilities, strengthening innovation, accelerating new product introduction, and enabling safe, reliable, cost-effective, and globally competitive manufacturing operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Engineering Strategy & Leadership

Develop and execute the long-term engineering strategy aligned with the business roadmap and technology vision.

Build and lead a high-performance multidisciplinary engineering organization.

Establish engineering governance, standards, best practices, and design review processes.

Foster a culture of innovation, technical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Develop engineering capability and succession plans to support future business growth.

  1. Technology Development & Product Innovation

Lead the development of next-generation fuel cell, hydrogen, and clean energy technologies.

Drive technology development from concept through prototype validation to commercial deployment.

Develop technology roadmaps aligned with customer and market requirements.

Identify emerging technologies and evaluate opportunities for product enhancement.

Lead innovation programs and support intellectual property generation, patents, and technology differentiation.

Collaborate with research institutions, academic organizations, government laboratories, and strategic technology partners.

  1. Product Engineering & Industrialization

Lead product engineering activities from prototype through commercial production.

Drive product industrialization to ensure scalable and robust manufacturing.

Develop manufacturable product architectures with emphasis on reliability, quality, and cost optimization.

Apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), Design for Cost (DFC), and Design for Reliability (DFR) principles.

Optimize product performance through engineering analysis, simulations, testing, and validation.

Support technology transfer from R&D into manufacturing operations.

  1. Process Engineering & Manufacturing Readiness

Develop, optimize, and standardize manufacturing processes for productivity, quality, throughput, and repeatability.

Establish process capability and manufacturing readiness for new products.

Define process specifications, work instructions, engineering standards, and control plans.

Lead process validation, qualification, and capability improvement initiatives.

Support continuous process optimization using engineering and statistical tools.

  1. Manufacturing Engineering & Facility Development

Develop manufacturing layouts and production systems supporting future capacity expansion.

Lead engineering activities for new facilities, infrastructure development, utilities, HVAC systems, cleanrooms, and production environments.

Define equipment specifications, procurement requirements, factory acceptance criteria, and commissioning plans.

Support phased implementation of semi-automated and fully automated production lines.

Evaluate and implement appropriate automation solutions to improve productivity and quality.

  1. Application Engineering & Customer Solutions

Engage with customers to understand technical requirements and application challenges.

Lead technical discussions, engineering reviews, and product customization initiatives.

Support proposal engineering, techno-commercial evaluations, and solution development.

Participate in customer demonstrations, pilot installations, field trials, and product qualification programs.

Translate customer requirements into engineering specifications and product improvements.

  1. Research, Testing & Validation

Lead engineering validation of products, subsystems, prototypes, and manufacturing processes.

Establish engineering test methodologies, validation protocols, and performance benchmarks.

Support prototype testing, product qualification, reliability improvement, and field performance evaluations.

Drive root cause analysis and engineering problem-solving using structured methodologies.

Ensure lessons learned are incorporated into future product designs.

  1. Project Engineering & Cross-Functional Leadership

Lead multidisciplinary engineering projects from concept through commissioning.

Develop project execution plans, schedules, budgets, risk registers, and milestone tracking.

Coordinate closely with Operations, Supply Chain, Quality, Procurement, Manufacturing, Safety, Finance, and Business Development teams.

Interface with customers, government agencies, certification bodies, research organizations, and strategic partners.

Ensure timely achievement of engineering deliverables supporting business commitments.

  1. Digital Engineering & Automation

Develop the engineering roadmap for phased automation and digital manufacturing.

Evaluate Industry 4.0 technologies including digital workflows, manufacturing analytics, traceability, and smart manufacturing systems.

Support implementation of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), digital engineering documentation, and process data analytics.

Promote digital engineering practices to improve engineering productivity and operational excellence.

  1. Quality, Reliability & Compliance

Ensure engineering compliance with customer specifications, statutory requirements, and quality systems.

Support APQP, PFMEA, Control Plans, FAT, SAT, IQ/OQ/PQ, qualification, and validation activities.

Drive product reliability improvement through engineering reviews and failure analysis.

Support implementation of engineering change management and configuration control processes.

  1. Safety, Risk Management & Sustainability

Ensure engineering designs comply with HSE, statutory, and customer safety requirements.

Participate in HAZOP, HAZID, LOPA, FMEA, and engineering risk assessments.

Promote inherently safe design principles across products and manufacturing facilities.

Support sustainability initiatives focusing on energy efficiency, resource optimization, and environmentally responsible engineering solutions.

Qualifications

  • ∙ B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Production, Mechatronics, Energy Engineering, or equivalent.

  • ∙ M.Tech preferred.

  • ∙ MBA or Postgraduate qualification in Technology Management will be an added advantage.
