Gusto is looking for a contract Applied AI Scientist to support applications around data import using Generative AI. About The Role We’re looking to build Gusto’s first AI team that will bring the power of AI to Gusto’s customers. You will sit on Gusto’s core AI team, and embed in the Gusto Pro product team to support generative AI projects directed at advanced payroll functionality, in particular capabilities to speed up the tedious process of running payroll using generative AI. You would be working closely with a team of Product Engineers, Designer, PM, and a Data Scientist. In this role, you’ll be responsible for developing, refining, evaluating, and shipping improvements to an existing product that uses proprietary and open source LLMs. You’ll be responsible for all aspects of the AI development lifecycle: Designing, pre-training, fine-tuning, reinforcement learning, evaluation, and deployment. As an Applied AI Scientist, you’ll own end-to-end design, implementation and maintenance of the AI features your team builds. Here’s What You’ll Do Day-to-day Develop, ship, maintain, and enhance AI models to production. Develop Gusto Assistant, a natural-language interface to Gusto. Improve LLMs through pre-training, fine-turning, and RLHF. Build metrics for LLMs and LLM based products, and assess best methods required to build LLMs suited for purpose Collaborate with the AI/ML infrastructure teams to determine business requirements and SLAs for API-enabled services Research novel AI techniques and strategies that create magical customer experiences. Here’s What We’re Looking For At least 6+ years of software engineering experience (Python, Ruby or Java). 3+ years of experience designing and developing AI and ML models, focused on NLP applications Experience building, deploying and maintaining LLM-based applications in production
