Job Title: Roadway Transportation Engineer (PE) Location: Hilliard, OH 43026 (Greater Columbus Area) | Job Type: Full-Time | On-Site Design the Infrastructure That Moves Central Ohio Forward Our client is seeking an experienced Roadway Transportation Engineer (PE) to join their growing transportation team in the Columbus, Ohio area. This opportunity is ideal for a motivated civil engineer with 5-10 years of roadway design experience who is ready to take on greater project responsibility while working on impactful transportation improvements throughout Central Ohio. In this role, you will contribute to the planning, design, and delivery of roadway infrastructure projects for the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), the City of Columbus, counties, and local municipalities. You'll collaborate with experienced professionals while helping shape transportation systems that improve safety, mobility, and community development. Position Overview: As a Roadway Transportation Engineer, you will lead and support the design of transportation infrastructure projects from concept through construction. You'll work on a diverse portfolio that includes roadway widening, intersection improvements, roundabouts, roadway realignments, subdivision infrastructure, drainage systems, utility coordination, and traffic maintenance planning.

Key Responsibilities: Roadway Design & Engineering

Design roadway widening and reconstruction projects.

Develop roadway realignment and intersection improvement plans.

Design roundabouts and traffic circulation improvements.

Support roadway infrastructure for new residential and commercial developments.

Prepare roadway geometric layouts and construction plans.

Drainage & Utility Design: Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses.

Design roadway drainage and stormwater management systems.

Coordinate utility conflicts with utility owners.

Design utility relocations and supporting infrastructure, including:

Water distribution systems

Sanitary sewer systems

Highway lighting systems

Traffic & Construction Planning

Develop Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plans.

Prepare traffic control plans for construction projects.

Produce quantity calculations and engineer's cost estimates.

Assist with constructability reviews and project delivery.

Client & Project Coordination: Coordinate directly with clients, including: Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT)

City of Columbus

County Engineers

Local municipalities

Participate in project scheduling, budgeting, quality assurance, and quality control (QA/QC).

Mentor junior engineering staff and support technical development.

Contribute to project management and long-term client relationships.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License in the State of Ohio.

  • 5-10 years of roadway and transportation engineering experience.

  • Strong understanding of roadway design principles and transportation infrastructure.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

  • Technical Skills: Experience with one or more of the following: AutoCAD Civil 3D

  • MicroStation

  • OpenRoads Designer

  • Experience with drainage and hydraulic software is a plus, including:

  • HEC-RAS

  • HydroCAD

  • Strong knowledge of: Roadway geometric design

  • Drainage and stormwater systems

  • Utility coordination

  • Maintenance of Traffic (MOT)

  • Traffic control plan development

  • Preferred Experience: Candidates with experience in the following areas are highly encouraged to apply:
