About the role
- Website Development & Customization. Develop, customize, and maintain WordPress and Shopify websites with a focus on performance and scalability. Build and extend custom WordPress themes/plugins and Shopify themes/apps. Convert Figma / PSD / design systems into pixel-perfect, responsive web pages. Implement and customize WooCommerce, Shopify checkout flows, payment gateways, shipping, and tax logic. SEO & Performance Optimization. Implement on-page and technical SEO best practices across both platforms. Optimize Meta tags, schema markup, headings, URLs, images. Core Web Vitals (LCP, CLS, INP). Page speed, caching, lazy loading, CDN usage. Conduct SEO and performance audits, identify bottlenecks, and implement improvements. Maintenance, Security & Scalability. Ensure website security through updates, patches, backups, and vulnerability fixes. Troubleshoot issues across themes, plugins, apps, and integrations. Optimize hosting environments (shared, VPS, cloud) for WordPress and Shopify. Collaboration & Analytics. Work closely with designers, SEO teams, and marketing stakeholders. Configure and monitor Google Analytics, Search Console, and other SEO tools. Provide technical recommendations to improve traffic, conversions, and user experience. Technical RequirementsCore Web & Backend Skills. Strong proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+). Advanced knowledge of PHP & WordPress Core (hooks, filters, REST API). MySQL and database optimization. Shopify Liquid, theme architecture, and Shopify APIs. Experience building custom themes and plugins (not just page builders). WordPress Expertise. Theme hierarchy, custom post types, Gutenberg blocks. WooCommerce customization (checkout, cart, pricing logic). Performance plugins, caching strategies, security hardening. Shopify Expertise. Shopify theme customization using Liquid. Shopify Apps, Webhooks, Storefront & Admin APIs. Checkout extensibility, payment and shipping integrations. DevOps & Engineering Practices. Git-based version control (GitHub / GitLab / Bitbucket). Experience with staging production workflows. Familiarity with CI/CD and deployment pipelines. Understanding of WCAG accessibility and cross-browser compatibility. AI-Related Requirements (Essential)AI-Assisted Development. Practical experience using AI coding tools (ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude) for Code generation and refactoring. Debugging and performance optimization. Theme/plugin scaffolding. AI for SEO & Content Optimization. Use of AI tools for Keyword clustering and SEO content optimization. Meta title/description generation with human review. Schema and structured data suggestions. Ability to integrate AI-generated content responsibly without SEO risks. AI-Driven Automation & Integrations. Experience integrating AI APIs into WordPress/Shopify AI chatbots and support widgets. Personalized product recommendations. AI-based search, filtering, or content tagging. Familiarity with automation workflows using AI + webhooks + third-party tools. AI Governance & Best Practices. Understanding of AI limitations, data privacy, and responsible usage. Ability to balance AI automation with manual quality control. Required Experience. 36+ years of hands-on WordPress and Shopify development. Strong portfolio of live production websites. Excellent debugging and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. Strong communication and documentation abilities. Nice-to-Have. Experience with headless WordPress or Shopify Hydrogen. Knowledge of React / Next. js. Exposure to CRO, A/B testing, and growth optimization. Experience with AI-powered e-commerce features.
