About the Role: Are you passionate about advancing the future of space technology through cuttingedge battery innovation We are looking for an experienced Staff Engineer LithiumIon Battery Chemistry to lead the development and qualification of highreliability lithiumion battery systems for spacecraft and satellite applications. In this role, you will drive the chemistry and electrochemical evaluation of lithiumion cells, lead lifecycle testing, degradation analysis, and failure investigations, and collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver missioncritical energy storage solutions. You'll play a key role in defining qualification strategies, improving battery reliability, and ensuring compliance with international aerospace standards while mentoring engineers and influencing technical decisions throughout the product lifecycle. This is an excellent opportunity to work on nextgeneration spacecraft power systems where your expertise will directly contribute to mission success. Lead the electrochemical evaluation, characterization, and performance assessment of LithiumIon cells intended for spacecraft battery applications, ensuring they meet stringent mission reliability and performance requirements. Develop, execute, and optimize qualification, characterization, and longduration lifecycle testing plans under missionspecific operating conditions while establishing scientifically sound testing methodologies. Analyze battery degradation trends by evaluating capacity fade, impedance growth, energy retention, and remaining useful life (RUL), and develop predictive models that support mission life estimation and longterm battery performance. Perform comprehensive cell failure investigations using electrical, electrochemical, and physical characterization techniques to identify root causes of degradation and correlate findings with manufacturing processes, material selection, operating conditions, and environmental stresses. Review and interpret electrochemical test data including Capacity Retention, Coulombic Efficiency, Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), DC Internal Resistance (DCIR), Hybrid Pulse Power Characterization (HPPC), Open Circuit Voltage (OCV), Rate Capability, ChargeDischarge Characteristics, and SelfDischarge to provide technical recommendations. Define battery cell acceptance criteria, qualification methodologies, screening processes, charging strategies, and operating limits to improve reliability, safety, and mission performance. Collaborate closely with battery electronics, mechanical, thermal, manufacturing, reliability, and systems engineering teams throughout product development to ensure seamless integration of battery systems into spacecraft platforms. Prepare technical reports, qualification documents, reliability assessments, customer presentations, and engineering recommendations while ensuring compliance with ECSS, NASA, and other applicable aerospace quality and reliability standards. Provide technical leadership by mentoring engineers, supporting multidisciplinary development activities, driving root cause investigations, and facilitating datadriven engineering decisions throughout the battery development lifecycle. Required Qualifications & Skills: Education M.Tech., M.E., or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Electrochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related discipline with a strong focus on electrochemical energy storage and lithiumion battery technologies. Experience A minimum of 7+ years of relevant industry or research experience in LithiumIon battery development, electrochemical characterization, battery reliability engineering, battery qualification, or advanced energy storage systems. Experience in aerospace, defence, aviation, or other missioncritical applications is highly preferred.
