Staff Software Engineer, Embedded Systems/Firmware

Job Description: As a software engineer at Google, you will contribute to developing next-generation technologies that impact billions of users worldwide. The Technical Infrastructure team at Google plays a crucial role in maintaining the architecture that supports all online services, from data centers to platform development. You will have the opportunity to work on various aspects such as information retrieval, distributed computing, networking, security, artificial intelligence, and more. Key Responsibilities: - Provide technical leadership on high-impact projects. - Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance large scale software solutions. - Design and develop a control plane for Infrastructure Processing Units (IPUs) and Smart Network Interface Cards (SmartNICs). - Implement networking and embedded-system features. - Collaborate closely with technical leads and cross-functional teams to define APIs, software flows, integration and validation plans, and feature releases. Qualifications Required: - Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience. - 8 years of experience with software development in programming languages like Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript. - 5 years of experience working with embedded operating systems. - 2 years of experience working with embedded processors, Linux kernel, drivers, BSP. - Experience with enterprise networking concepts such as DNS, TCP, Firewalls, Proxy Servers, DMZ. - Experience working with distributed systems, including solutions or design patterns. Preferred Qualifications: - Master's degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field. - 8 years of experience with data structures and algorithms. - 3 years of experience in networking technologies/concepts like Software Defined Networking (SDN). - 3 years of experience in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects. - 2 years of experience in Layer-2/3 networking protocols and networking technologies like SDN, DPDK, RDMA, QoS. - Experience in embedded systems/firmware design, development, and debugging.
