About the role
Role Overview This role delivers L1/L1.5 production operations support for PostgreSQL environments within a 24x7, SLA-driven setup. The focus is on monitoring, validating alerts, performing backup and job checks, triaging incidents using SOPs, and keeping tickets and worklogs up to date. The DB Engineer executes documented runbooks, gathers evidence (logs, screenshots), supports user/account requests, and performs change/deployment verification steps. Non-SOP engineering tasks, architectural/design work, and deep query/index tuning are escalated to L2/SME/L3 teams. The engineer communicates clearly on incident bridges, responds on Slack/Teams, and provides thorough shift handovers and timely escalations. Required Qualifications 23 years in database or production support in a 24x7 environment Basic PostgreSQL administration knowledge (instances, connections, roles, logs) Hands-on experience with monitoring and alert handling for databases Incident triage using documented SOPs/runbooks and timely escalation Strong ticket hygiene with ITSM tools (e.g., Jira or ServiceNow) Backup monitoring and validation fundamentals Clear written and verbal communication; solid shift handover discipline Willingness to work in rotating shifts including nights/weekends Responsibilities Continuously monitor PostgreSQL availability, health, replication, storage, jobs, and backups. Validate alerts, create/update tickets for actionable events, and close false positives per SOPs. Perform first-level incident triage, collect logs/screenshots/evidence, and prepare handoff notes for L2/SME. Execute approved health checks and routine operational tasks per runbooks. Support user/account access requests following approval workflows and least-privilege guidelines. Assist with deployment/migration verification steps and change windows within SOP scope. Maintain and improve knowledge base articles, SOPs, and runbooks based on learnings. Respond to Slack/Teams operational requests and coordinate on incident bridges when asked. Provide clear shift transition updates and follow escalation paths for non-SOP or design-level work. Collaborate within a multi-DB environment (SQL Server, Azure SQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle) for monitoring and triage.
