About the role
- Improve and maintain local development environments for Java/Tomcat applications target: one-command setup. - Migrate teams from SVN to Git; establish pull-request workflows, protected branches, and code-review standards. - Build service-virtualization and mocking layers (WireMock, MockServer, Testcontainers) to remove dependency on live DBs or third-party APIs. - Add integration and regression test automation to existing legacy Java monoliths without full rewrites. - Reduce CI feedback cycles faster pipelines, meaningful quality gates (SonarQube, JUnit, JMeter). - Introduce AI-assisted development workflows (GitHub Copilot, Claude Code) and make codebases agent-friendly. - Build internal developer tooling: scripts, templates, onboarding guides, and runbooks. SKILLS REQUIRED - Java (710 years): Tomcat, JSP, Servlets, JDBC, Spring MVC / Spring Boot, Spring Batch. - Legacy modernisation: version upgrades (Java 1117, Spring 56), monolith RCA and incremental improvement. - Git: SVNGit migration, branch strategies, pull-request setup. - Test automation on legacy codebases: JUnit, integration tests, regression suites. - CI/CD: Jenkins, Bamboo, or GitLab CI; SonarQube or equivalent quality gates. - Service virtualisation: WireMock, MockServer, Testcontainers, or Pact. - Linux, Bash/Python scripting for automation and tooling. - AI-assisted dev experience (GitHub Copilot, Claude AI, or similar) is a robust plus. .
